The 'King' of Snakes !!
#KingCobra #WorldSnakeDay
Endemic to India and SE Asia.
Only snake that builds a nest of dry litter to lay eggs.
Feeds on other snakes and hence scientifically named as 'Ophiophagus' meaning 'snake-eating' in Greek.

#COVID19 will stretch health systems in #snakebite endemic regions to their limits. Prevention of this #NTD that kills and seriously injures countless numbers every year is more important now than ever. A thread on community measures to #preventsnakebite 1/9

Main thing to look for in kraits are the white bands in pairs. Common wolf has single white bands. Because morphs of snakes can be tricky, don't handle or go near the snake if you're not sure. Send pic for ID or locate a rescuer on our Android app SERPENT, on Google play store.

Non-spitting cobras show more neurotoxins than spitting cobras, which could explain why the venom presentation is so different! #VenomDay18

Secrets of spitting cobras!! So excited!!
African spitting cobras are medically important but also have very different symptoms including necrosis upon a #snakebite. So does the venom of spitting and non-spitting cobras differ?

Utterly ridiculous that this is being featured by a channel like @BBCHindi . Handlers like these not only put their own life in danger, as well as the snakes', but also of others who imitate them, after seeing big news channels covering them! THIS is NOT #snake #rescue!
