Meanwhile, in the UK, the number of kids with Long Covid in England & Scotland nearly DOUBLED in a year between Mar 2023 & Mar 2024, rising to over 111K. That’s over 1K NEW cases in kids PER WEEK across the year. That was over 2 years ago now. And then ONS stopped tracking it.

ONS is no longer tracking prevalence of Long Covid… …but, at the last count, the # of children with Long Covid had nearly DOUBLED in a year (between Mar 2023 & Mar 2024), rising to over 111K in England & Scotland. That’s over 1K NEW cases in children PER WEEK across the year.

A huge thank you to @InclusiveNew for pursuing this and ensuring that changes were made to correct this very obvious error. More details in this thread ⬇️
🎉Success is not a word commonly seen in relation to securing positive change to infection prevention and control policy but I'm delighted to have some to report, having written to point out that it is an error to say no infectious person should wear an FFP3 mask 🧵

🚨BOOKLET: HAS IPC GUIDANCE IN SCOTLAND & WALES LEARNT THE LESSONS OF THE COVID PANDEMIC? (Spoiler: the answer is NO!) I’m honoured that the brilliant folks @SupportingHH_UK were able to use content from my thread & transform it into an amazing booklet: shh-uk.org/new-ipc-guidance-…

The PCR positivity map is out, and national positivity has edged up in both England and Scotland. Reporting in England is close to 100% this week, making the 10.98% adjusted national average as accurate as it gets in the world of covid data. jamestindall.info/skeuomorph… 1/8

🔥Peer-reviewed research (NEJM, Nature, etc.) shows COVID causes measurable IQ drops (3–9 points), accelerates Alzheimer’s pathology, and stacks organ damage with every reinfection. Read the 🧵. Then repost it. Most people still treat this like a seasonal cold. The data clearly says otherwise!! #IWarnedYou #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections
Making a new COVID research thread bc this website is trash. Part 2 of a working thread of published research on COVID 19. Every claim links to a real study. Published, peer-reviewed research from journals like Nature, The Lancet, BMJ, and Nature Medicine. Not speculation.

COVID-19 may leave a biological footprint far beyond the lungs. ➡️ A review of post-COVID research highlights how persistent inflammation, endothelial and microvascular injury, mitochondrial dysfunction, immune dysregulation and fibrotic remodeling may affect the lungs, heart, kidneys, skeletal muscles, brain and blood vessels. ➡️ Even after the acute infection resolves, the body’s repair machinery may continue to shape the aftermath—through altered energy production, damaged microcirculation and, in some patients, tissue scarring. ➡️ The big message: Long COVID is not simply a lingering respiratory illness; it can represent a multisystem process involving tissue injury, immune responses and abnormal repair. The mechanisms and extent of damage vary considerably, and persistent structural injury is not present in everyone. medicaljournals.eu/index.php…

I wanted to post an update of Scotland’s “COVID test positivity by age” charts… …but, alas, just as the wave gets really bad, the data has gone screwy. Funny how that always seems to happen. 🤔 scotland.shinyapps.io/phs-re…
Just been looking at Scotland’s COVID data - and there’s some interesting trends. There was an unusual COVID wave at the start of this year which disproportionately affected kids… …but the opposite effect is happening in this wave. Now it’s older folks being hit hardest.

Growing evidence suggests COVID-19 can increase susceptibility to new or worsening migraine and migraine-like symptoms. Migraine isn’t always a headache — it can involve visual symptoms, nausea, light sensitivity and cognitive symptoms. Why aren’t we hearing more about this?

The Covid wave in England is likely continuing to grow, and infection levels as of 27 September were probably between 1 in 249 and 1 in 218 people infected. This is the time to take sensible precautions against catching Covid in all indoor places. A (short) thread 🧵

Hospitals in Scotland are already facing ‘extreme pressure’. Not surprising because there’s a large COVID wave underway… …but Scotland’s IPC team don’t worry about COVID because: ▪️it’s NOT severe ▪️is UNLIKELY to spread ▪️vaccines are readily available …apparently?! 🤔
Replying to @_CatintheHat
THE BIG REVEAL: Scotland’s IPC team have decided to place COVID in the R1 category. That means they consider that COVID: ▪️does NOT cause severe disease ▪️is UNLIKELY to spread to the community ▪️and there IS prophylaxis or treatment readily available. nipcm.hps.scot.nhs.uk/media/…

Interesting...! 👀
Following my post below, I decided to write to the body responsible, pointing out that it is incorrect to say that fit-tested unvalved FFP3 face masks do not filter air expelled by the wearer so should never be worn by an infectious person. I have just had a response! 🥳🧵

The Scottish IPC team listened… they responded… but will they actually act? Only time will tell ⏰ The depressing thing is that this is only the very tip of the iceberg in terms of the issues with their new IPC guidance…
