Our star Carol Pacheco is in Italy 🇮🇹 🤌 for the @Ecrs2024 showing her work as a PhD student @PPGECOUFRN 🇧🇷💪 If you are at #ECRS2024 go find her to know more about how corals deal with a 5°C temperature fluctuation in Brazil! 🔥😲 Have fun, Carol! 🙌😊
It is oout🚨
🚨 Corals and macroalgae have a longlasting love-hate story 💘 New paper from @InagakiKelly
PhD @PPGECOUFRN with @gui_o_longo unravels global patterns and future directions to understand these interactions in a changing world 🌎 Check it out 👇 doi.org/10.1007/s00338-024-0…
New paper out 🚨 showing that joining #AI and #citizenscience result in a new way to monitor our corals 🤓 The new article is a #collab between @MarineEcoBR @ufrnbr @PPGECOUFRN and @UFPR on @PeerJLife 😁
🚨Can we use #AI to detect and identify #corals in pictures posted by citizen scientists in social media? YES! 💪Our #DeOlhoNosCorais dataset is out on @PeerJLife in a Brazilian collab between @MarineEcoBR @ufrnbr @PPGECOUFRN and @ufpr 🇧🇷 Check it out👇 peerj.com/articles/16219/

A while ago, one of my junior graduate students dropped by my office, exasperated they said,
'I don't know how to innovate! How do we come up with new ideas?!'
I erased my whiteboard and started to list ideas, then I shared it on @X & got more ideas from my peer #professors. I hope this helps others!

To answer this question, we had to look at growth rates across as many species as possible, since it underpins fish productivity
@helenyaan helped out with this by applying foundational models developed by @RenatoAMorais and @bellwoodlab here👇

Aaand she is finally here!!🤩 stay tuned for some cool #coralscience in 🇧🇷 with amazing @Cnidarians_Rock and team! We are so excited!!🤓 welcome Nikki!!
Made it #Natal #Brazil for a summer of #Fulbright , family, friends, and fun! Excited to speak Portuguese badly and work with lab @MarineEcoBR led by powerhouse @gui_o_longo !!
Thanks for everyone who watched me🤓! It is always awesome talk about reef science, and even better bring brazilian science from @MarineEcoBR 🇧🇷 to other places!
Are you at the #BEM2023? Don't miss out @InagakiKelly presentation on what happened with coral-seaweed-herbivore interactions in the past 20 years and what are thr next frontiers! Brazilian science 🇧🇷 @MarineEcoBR 🙌💪
Hi from Miami ✌️ #BenthicEcologyMeeting23 people, if you are interested in know how coral-algal interactions have been explored 📚 in the last 20 years, come to watch me 😁! I will present at Tuttle room on Saturday 11:30am 😉

🚨New paper is out showing that SWAtlantic corals are #keystone species supporting juvenile and adult fish🐟Good news: coral loss would lead to limitted functional erosion of our generalist fish assemblages💪Led by AndreLuza & ReefSyn team🇧🇷!👇@SciReports rdcu.be/cXt0E
Yeah, paper out! Very interest results 🤓 but not so good for our brazilian marine species and interactions 😕, who have been threatened by ornamental market 😥
Our paper is out showing that marine ornamental market in Brazil trades endemic and vulnerable species 🐟🦀🪸🐚, including ilegal ones🚫, which may disrupt mutualistic interactions 🫤 Lead by LailaCarvalho & MiguelMies with @InagakiKelly @MarineEcoBR 💪👇
