The Dunn House model brings health care and housing together. It provides supportive housing for those who need it most, reduces strain on emergency services, and saves millions of dollars in health care costs.Β  Β  It’s compassionate, effective care β€” and that’s why we’re expanding it.
Housing is a key part of health care. Opened in Toronto in 2024, Dunn House, Canada’s first Social Medicine housing, has already shown extraordinary results. By offering permanent and supportive housing to those experiencing homelessness, we’ve seen emergency department visits down 52% and hospital stay lengths down 79% among residents, as well as millions of dollars saved in hospital costs. Less than a year after launching, Build Canada Homes is already helping scale this proven model. With a new $25 million federal investment in Dunn House Phase 3, we’re expanding supportive housing and changing more lives.

Alberta's healthcare changes are akin to me as an ER doc asking the full waiting room who wants to pay me $500 to get seen first, regardless of acuity or wait time. That'd be unethical, unprofessional and corrupt. @OntarioHealthC @HealthCoalition cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/…

We've all failed. Every political party. The medical profession. The public. We've failed to prioritize the welfare of our families and communities. We've collectively failed to make a bed for the sick and injured. This will affect every Canadian family. ctvnews.ca/saskatoon/article…

If there's a long coffee line never pull staff to open a premium line for those paying an extra $100. Few can afford it. Staff migrate to the premium line - and the common line is longer. Same in healthcare. One line. Add employees. Queue-jumping isn't queue-shortening.

The best specialist is the one most available. We can quibble about subspecialty interests, but I trust all the specialists I refer to. The problem is doctors like me are blind and deaf to the most available specialist. Central intake gets around this problem. @BradenMannsYYC
It’s not a secret: Central referral and triage can ensure that the sickest patients are seen first by specialists. So why isn’t it in place across all specialty areas and provinces? Change is possible and happening in some areas – but tradition, culture, and system barriers need to be broken down. Learn more. bradenmanns.substack.com #canadahealthcare #BCHealth #VancouverHealth

Whatever the AB government thinks it’s doing to β€œfix” healthcare through private services, not providing timely EMS is a catastrophic failure that must be fixed first.
Another recent case AB: Pt collapses and is unresponsive in their home. Spouse calls EMS and >90mins for an ambulance to arrive ("no EMS available to respond") Pt unstable and witnessed cardiac arrest for EMS Pt transported to ED w resuscitation ongoing Pt does NOT survive 1/2

If you worry you have cancer and can afford it - you jump the queue. But if you can't afford it - you're shit out of luck. That's how Alberta Conservatives roll. If you ask doctors - it would be hard to dream up a more stupid profiteering public policy. theglobeandmail.com/canada/a…

The challenge of criticizing Canada's publicly funded healthcare system and advocating for needed improvements is it's ammunition for the profiteer forces that then say "See, see! Public fails. Give us your money!". Can we improve - yes. Is profiteering the solution - no.

Doug Ford ran on protecting Ontario from American threats. Then he handed Toronto’s waterfront to JP Morgan. Nieuport Aviation, controlled by America’s largest bank, owns the Billy Bishop terminal. They bought it for $750 million and have been losing money ever since. So Ford introduced legislation to seize Toronto’s own land, override the city, and deliver the airport expansion JP Morgan needs to make its investment whole. One of the lobbyists pushing this deal? A former senior Ford aide. The revolving door didn’t even slow down. The Building Billy Bishop Act lets Ford expropriate almost all of the Toronto Islands. City officials warn it means gridlock, pollution, and harbour degradation. Nobody asked for this. The only winner is a New York bank. Captain Canada. Protecting Ontario from the Americans, by handing them our waterfront. Mark Carney has the power to stop this. And he’d better!!

Paul Calandra is laying off custodians and frontline education workers while handing out six-figure management jobs. These are the people who keep schools clean, safe, and functioning for students every day β€” and this government treated them like expendable line items. Twisted priorities from a government that keeps choosing bureaucracy over classrooms. #onpoli @tylerwatt
