IMPD have arrested a 42-year-old male for his alleged role in a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in early October near W. Michigan Street and Grande Avenue.
On Monday, October 4th, just before 10:30 p.m., IMPD Southwest District officers were called to a serious injury crash involving a bicyclist and an unknown vehicle. It was determined that the victim, a 56-year-old woman, had died at the scene.
Video footage from nearby businesses, as well as automated license plate readers (ALPRs), helped detectives identify the vehicle and later the driver involved in the crash. Crash investigators pushed further and, using several investigative means and a whole lot of math to narrow down a timeline and distance traveled, secured charges for the driver.
On October 29, 2026, the Marion County Prosecutorโs Office issued a warrant for the driverโs arrest for the charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and driving while suspended with a prior conviction. Two days later, on October 31st, the suspect turned himself in.
An arrest and a charge are merely accusations, and the individual arrested should be considered innocent until proven guilty in court.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, IMPD Northwest District officers responded to 1500 Stadium Way on the report of trouble with a person. When officers arrived, they observed Chaise Watkins attempting to park his marked police vehicle in a parking spot within the apartment complex. Officers approached Watkins, observed signs of intoxication, and notified a supervisor who responded to the scene.
Detectives from the IMPD Special Investigations Unit, as well as an OVWI investigator, responded to continue the investigation. Watkins was transported to an area hospital for a blood draw.
During the investigation, investigators developed probable cause to arrest Watkins on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OVWI) endangering a person, an A misdemeanor, and OVWI with a BAC of 0.15 or higher, also an A misdemeanor. The Marion County Prosecutorโs Office will make the final charging decision.
Chief Terry has placed Watkins on administrative leave with no police powers.
Watkins has been with IMPD for three years and was most recently assigned to the North District.
As with any individual arrested, Watkins is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

IMPD drug enforcement detectives, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Indiana State Police (ISP), and Beech Grove Police Department, have arrested a 41-year-old male, a 26-year-old male and seized thousands of pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, more commonly known as psychedelic mushrooms, following a lengthy and coordinated narcotics investigation.
This case began after a fatal overdose in early 2026. IMPD Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) detectives worked diligently not only to identify and arrest the suspected dealer, but also to identify the origin and supply chain of the drugs entering our community. Ultimately, detectives identified a likely source and distributor responsible for bringing dangerous substances into Indianapolis.
On October 21, 2026, IMPD, ISP, and the DEA executed search warrants at multiple locations across the city. Those warrants resulted in the following:
โข 2 sawed off shotguns
โข 3 AR pistols
โข 2 AR rifles
โข $9,500
โข 2 forfeited cars
โข 1,500+lbs unprocessed psilocybin (mushrooms)
Valued between $2.1-4.2 million
โข 25lbs of dried cultivated psilocybin (mushrooms)
โข 66lbs of psilocybin (mushroom) edibles
โข 277lbs of liquid psilocybin (mushroom) drinks
โข 6lbs of marijuana
โข 100s of pressed counterfeit pills (X, ecstasy, Molly)
โThis investigation represents more than just a major drug seizure,โ said Lieutenant Justin Gough. โIt is a reminder to our community that when lives are lost, we do not stop at the first suspect. We will continue pursuing justice and working to remove these harmful substances from our neighborhoods. Every step we take is about protecting families and preventing another tragedy.โ
The men were arrested on the preliminary charges of dealing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. The Marion County Prosecutorโs Office will make the final charging decision.
An arrest and a charge are merely accusations, and the arrestee should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

IMPD Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) detectives have arrested the third suspect for their alleged involvement in the May 2026 murder of a 16-year-old male on Indyโs Northwest side. Now, a 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, and a 19-year-old male face murder, armed robbery, and firearms charges.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., IMPD Northwest District officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Renn Lane on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located a 16-year-old male in the hallway of an apartment building with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Unfortunately, he died on scene.
IMPD homicide detectives responded to begin their investigation. Detectives canvassed the area for video footage, forensic evidence, and potential witnesses. Through witness information and investigative techniques, detectives identified the three males believed to be the suspects in this case.
Detectives presented their findings to the Marion County Prosecutorโs Office (MCPO), which issued arrest warrants for the teens on charges of murder and armed robbery.
On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, VCU detectives located the 15-year-old suspect and arrested him on his outstanding warrant. In late August, VCU detectives arrested the 17-year-old and 19-year-old for their active warrants.
An arrest and a charge are merely accusations, and suspects should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
