Most foreigners get their Kenya immigration status wrong somewhere. Not because the rules are hard. Because nobody explains them properly. This page creates awareness on exactly that. From an immigration lawyer's perspective, not a recycled checklist everyone copies from each other. Work permits. Special passes. Dependants passes. Passports and visas. Alien ID cards. Certificates of residence. Citizenship by birth registration or naturalisation. Status for foreign spouses of Kenyan citizens. Deportation and entry ban appeals. Permit renewals and cancellations. Employer compliance for foreign staff. The real process and what actually applies to you. For any queries DM.

Kenya’s Local Content Bill, 2025: What Foreign Companies Need to Know 🇰🇪 The Local Content Bill, 2025 is currently before the National Assembly. It seeks to require foreign companies operating in Kenya to prioritise local goods, services and labour. If passed, some of the requirements for foreign companies would include:- ✓ Source at least 60% of locally manufactured goods and specified services from Kenyan companies (where standards are met) ✓ Source 100% of agricultural produce used as raw materials from Kenyan farmers ✓ Employ qualified Kenyan citizens at all levels of the organisation, including management ✓ Ensure at least 80% of the total workforce are Kenyan citizens ✓ Provide technical and capacity-building support to local suppliers where needed The requirements would apply to sectors such as financial services, insurance, construction, transport, warehousing, logistics, security and any other services the Cabinet Secretary may designate. Non-compliance would attract significant penalties, including a fine of not less than KES 100 million for the company and possible imprisonment of not less than one year for the CEO. Existing contracts at the time of commencement would generally be protected until they expire and the Bill proposes a transition period after enactment to allow companies to adjust. This is still a Bill under consideration and is not yet law. Foreign investors, company directors and anyone planning to set up or expand operations in Kenya should monitor its progress closely, as it could affect procurement, hiring and overall compliance strategies. #KenyaBusiness #LocalContent #InvestingInKenya #DoingBusinessInKenya

A client recently asked me: “How do I export avocados from Kenya to Europe?” Here is how I explained it to them. Exporting avocados requires more than finding a European buyer. You must comply with Kenyan export regulations, EU import standards and immigration requirements. The key institutions include the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), through the Horticultural Crops Directorate and the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS). 1. Register your business ✓ Incorporate a company in Kenya or establish an appropriately registered foreign-company branch. The applicable export licensing procedure requires business registration documentation. ✓ Obtain the company's KRA PIN and meet the applicable tax requirements. ✓ Obtain the relevant county business permit. ✓ Establish a compliant sourcing and packhouse arrangement. 2. Obtain AFA export licensing ✓ Apply for the applicable horticultural export licence. ✓ Meet the requirements relating to registered suppliers, produce traceability and packhouse inspection. ✓ Confirm the current requirements for registering buyers and obtaining consignment-level export clearance. 3. Comply with harvesting and maturity requirements ✓ Check AFA's current harvesting and export-season notices. ✓ Ensure the avocados meet the applicable maturity and quality standards. ✓ Confirm any conditions specific to the variety and shipping method. Exporting immature fruit can result in rejected consignments and regulatory sanctions, including suspension or revocation of the export licence. Thread 🧵👇

Visiting Kenya as a Tourist 🇰🇪 — Part 2 4. Yellow fever vaccination Depending on your travel history and itinerary, you may need a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. 5. Be ready to explain your visit Keep your accommodation bookings, return or onward ticket, safari itinerary and evidence of sufficient funds available. Immigration officers may request these documents. 6. Understand the limits of tourist entry Tourist entry does not authorize employment or other activities requiring separate immigration permission. An approved eTA also does not guarantee admission; the final decision rests with immigration authorities. #KenyaImmigration #VisitKenya #KenyaSafari

One thing I value and believe more people should embrace, is the habit of reaching out and connecting with others. Strangers become friends, conversations become collaborations and relationships create opportunities. I will keep reaching out, learning and building connections regardless of the reception. Sometimes, the opportunity you are looking for begins with the person you have not met yet.
