3/4 As a Black and minoritised feminist organisation working with ‘by and for’ specialist services, we can’t stay on a platform that permits, amplifies, or monetises abuse. Recent misuse of X’s Grok tool alone, shows how sexual harm can scale fast.

2/4 X has become a space where misogyny, racism, harassment, disinformation, and violence against women and girls are amplified and normalised - heightening risk for Black and minoritised women and girls.

🗞️ - @imkaan Executive Director Ghadah Alnasseri in @guardian: VAWG is not an “imported” problem like Kemi Badenoch suggested. Scapegoating migrants doesn’t protect women; it fuels racism and makes migrant women less safe. “It’s deeply inaccurate… misinformation… and it’s spreading racism.” We need prevention, perpetrator accountability, and sustained funding for specialist ‘by and for’ services; not rhetoric that stokes hostility and undermines safety. 🔗 Read the article: theguardian.com/society/2025…

🚨The Mental Health Act 2025 has passed - and Black & minoritised survivors of VAWG continue to be failed. 🆕Imkaan are launching ‘Neither Seen Nor Heard’ - a campaign to expose how survivors are erased from mental health reform! 🔗Read our initial response to the Act: bit.ly/4htHgFz ❌Racial disparities persist ❌Trauma: misdiagnosed ❌'By and for' services remain underfunded. ➡️This isn’t reform. It’s replication of harm.

🆕1/ Imkaan statement in response to VAWG Strategy: The new VAWG Strategy includes a long-overdue commitment to fund specialist advocacy provision, including ‘by and for’ services. This is a vital step towards ensuring Black and minoritised victim-survivors with intersecting needs get the support they deserve. 🔗👇🏾

2/ This commitment reflects years of research, parliamentary engagement, advocacy, and survivor-led evidence provided by Imkaan and our members. We now await its implementation so no Black and minoritised victim-survivor of VAWG is left without safety and support. 🔗Read our statement, in response: bit.ly/3YyQkjB

✍🏿 BLOG entry: 🔗: bit.ly/452YTH4 Today closes #16DaysOfActivism. This year, we chose to focus on government and media-inflicted digital violence that isn’t addressed enough. 1️⃣ Through government systems (e-visas, digital IDs, immigration tech) 2️⃣ Through media narratives and misrepresentation that fuel far-right hostility. To end violence, we must change the systems & narratives that enable it. 🔗 Read our blog for Imkaan’s recommendations (in short) on how to address both: bit.ly/452YTH4

1/ In recent years, a number of high profile incidents have shown that online hate towards Black and minoritised people, and hostile narratives about them, do not stay on screens. 🧵 👇🏽

6/ When the wider digital and media environment repeatedly dehumanises Black and minoritised migrant women, portraying them as less credible, less deserving or as a “problem” to be managed; perpetrators internalise the message that these women can be harmed with fewer consequences. Violence against Black and minoritised women becomes intensified by the media, digital and political narratives that decide who belongs, who is believed and who is protected.

7/ We’ve heard this in real life from survivors. One woman told us she couldn’t access her e-visa because her abuser had taken her phone. Without that access she missed her immigration appointment. That meant losing Universal Credit. And when she tried to explain she couldn’t “bring her documents” because her only document existed online, she was blamed for the system’s failure.👇🏽

8/ The government builds digital walls and then tells women to climb them. We need policies that put the realities of women at the forefront, not ones that punish them for the violence they have survived. ℹ️ 🔗 Please take a moment to read the full report here: lnkd.in/ewWj_Y8h
