A real problem with a lot of writing on creativity is that it ignores the second part of the standard defintion: having novel ideas that have value. Blowing through the wrong end of a trumpet is not creative; Miles Davis is. Creativity almost always requires disciplinary mastery

Trust doesn't develop from always doing the right thing. Trust comes from taking responsibility when we do the wrong thing.

Leaders don’t always have the answers... but they can always demonstrate compassion. They probably can’t fix every problem... but they can always show support. They might not have the expertise... but they can always collaborate with those who do.

One misconception on trauma-informed education is that educators don’t give students consequences for inappropriate behavior. Here’s what trauma-informed education is really about. edutopia.org/article/underst…
Routines are the life-blood getting more done and making the most of instructional minutes. They free up space in our brain for heavy cognitive lifting. How are your classroom routines? What new routines are you going to try out in this new semester?

"I believe deep in my bones that every child deserves the opportunity to be challenged and engaged, every teacher is worth investing in their craft, and every community deserves to be enlisted in the process of collectively developing their future." ow.ly/Li2b50vWSs2

A school staff that believes it can collectively make a positive difference for students likely will. This is the absolute greatest impact on learning. Believe in yourself and believe in your team! #teachergoals

I love the connection between reading comprehension and math. What a cool strategy, especially for kiddos that get confused whenever numbers are involved. Different instructional approaches help different kids. This is going in the figurative “Toolbox!”
"I read. They read. We read together." This teacher—momentarily—takes out the numbers in math word problems and reads them as a story. Check out the results.

Cross-sectional analyses of PISA and NAEP data suggest little or no overall relationship between technology use and student achievement: bit.ly/2RhROeD. We need to stop asking "Does technology help?" and start asking "When does technology help?" – at Florida, USA

Admin, As you begin to plan for next year, remember it’s not just students who need Maslow before Bloom. Teachers also need: 1) feel safe / supported 2) Volition/ sense of autonomy 3) attention/ appreciation 4) emotional connection/ relationship 5) value within the team
