Had a meeting tonight where a branch member described the 2017 GE result—the largest swing since 1945, reversing 20 years of electoral decline and breaking the government’s majority—as “catastrophic” for Labour.
I find this sort of revisionism deeply alarming.
We joke about the phrase ‘stay and fight’, but it was a good principle in 2020; the problem is that the people who stayed didn’t actually do any fighting.
We didn’t fight back. Instead, we contested internal elections; we lodged formal complaints; and we wrote disappointed letters to our MPs.
We followed the rules, we went through proper channels, and none of it mattered, because they control the rules; they control the channels.

In an otherwise good set of results I’m horrified by this one. @UKLabour has come so far in tackling antisemitism since the EHRC report thanks to the leadership of @Keir_Starmer and for that I’ll be forever grateful. We need to make sure that we keep fighting the good fight.

Saw Keir's "commitment" clip so checked the full thing. Ouch.
@afneil: A pledge is your word...So is it a pledge that these industries will be in your manifesto for nationalisation?
KS: Yes
And tuition fees?
"They're all pledges so the answer is yes..That's why it's a pledge"

I reckon newspapers like this can get away with writing such obvious lies about workplaces because so few of their readers have been anywhere near one for decades and just don't understand them

It sounds pretty sordid, but doesn’t surprise me at all.
