So excited to take part in the democratic process he wouldn't sit still @WalesOnline #dogsatpollingstations
He's not even meeting Trump - he's at an event with 3,500 other people. That's like me saying I was at an event with Dave Grohl because I saw the Foo Fighters at the Principality last year. Wales needs effective opposition and this ain't it.

If nothing else I hope this shows how the @southwalesargus isn't in the business of parroting political propaganda. Kudos to @WalesOnline for putting the same story on the Western Mail front today (written by @NewsatTwm through the BBC Local Democracy Reporting partnership).
There's a handful for whom this sort of behaviour is standard, but plenty of others who've really let themselves down here. Perhaps there was an edict from Welsh Tory HQ to jump on it, but that's speculation on my part.
Anyone with a basic understanding of devolution knows this was never going to happen, but the people saying it was were relying on us - on you - to be too dumb to know this, and certainly not to read beyond a headline.
Coming out of mostly-Twitter retirement for a quick thread on the below story.
Personal opinions and all that etc etc.

Yes, bringing back the tolls was in the original Monmouthshire Council report, but again, the council doesn't have the power to do that. Why it was in there in the first place is a bit baffling.
The same people who shared the article in the first place are now insisting Labour did a U-turn following the Daily Mail article (thread by original co-author @guyadams below). Again, nonsense, because it was never going to happen in the first place.

I was reluctant to even do a story in the first place since it's so obviously nonsense, but it was getting so much traction it ultimately wouldn't have been responsible not to.
It is of course worth pointing out that it was a Conservative Government which scrapped the tolls on the bridges, which has been a very good thing for the economy of South East Wales (and the value of my house).
But that doesn't matter because all Twitter needs is a headline, and a big group of Conservatives latched onto it as an example of what they insist is Labour's "war on motorists".
Needless to say, this was nonsense, not least because the council doesn't have the power to bring back the tolls. In fact, the article itself ended with the below line rendering everything above it irrelevant.
Yesterday morning the Daily Mail posted a story claiming Monmouthshire Council were bringing back tolls on the Severn Bridges.
