Capturing the generational impact of our Orphans’ Project!
Sulwe and Lenny sandwich newborn calf Zigi in a Umani’s baby elephant procession! Zigi is the latest calf born into this herd - that’s his proud mum Zongoloni supervising the youngsters. For two years, Mwana - the first calf born to an orphan rescued, raised, and rewilded in Umani - was the only baby, but in the space of five months she’s become the oldest of four. For these babies to be here today is testament to a life saved many years ago, nurtured through hardship - and in cases significant physical injury - to the point where they can live a wild life, which for a female elephant is one shaped around family. We are deeply grateful to our supporters, who give life to our Orphans’ Project. Learn more at: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/p…
