If AI is a bubble that pops, we will need UBI, and if AI isn't a bubble and replaces a lot of labor, we will need UBI. So hey, here's a thought, let's do UBI now before all the shit truly hits the fan.
Either the AI bubble will pop, which will create a Great Depression-level market crash. Or the AI valuations will be justified, which only works if AI replaces a huge number of workers and we get massive unemployment. Either way, we are headed towards a monumental crisis.

I loathe cars and car-as-transit culture, that doesn't mean cyclists don't do dangerous stuff around pedestrians, don't speed, don't cross lights and act unpredictably around people who are trying to cross on the short window the green man affords. Sympathy doesn't mean impunity.

yes even the annoying dads in lycra. yes even the delivery ebike riders parked up on footpaths - that's how you get your cheap treats delivered by precarious migrant labour! you can have to step around them for 2 seconds before they get killed or injured by cars later that night

Man this really sucks
If covid infections make you *more vulnerable* to almost every other pathogenic infection by multiple mechanisms, then you'd expect increases in almost every other pathogenic infection. And that's what we see. Ten completely unsurprising news stories:

The Venn diagram of people with the most heartless replies and those who have “Christian” in their bios is so bleak, man.
"A man ran to the Broadview ICE facility today searching for his wife of five years. They were following the legal process, showing up for her court case, when ICE took her to another room and disappeared her. He tracked her phone to Broadview where the signal cut off. Police told him to just look up her name online. He sat in a parking lot weeping, confused, with no answers." 🥹😭👇

If you think "globalize the intifada" means "kill the jews" you are simply a racist, or ignorant enough to listen to what racists tell you. In the same way that racists thought "Power to the people" meant "kill white people".

For the last two years anyone who criticized these massacres would be told "tell Hamas to free the hostages then". The hostages are free and the massacres are still happening.
🚨Breaking: Gaza Civil Defense reports 11 Palestinians killed after an Israeli tank fired on a civilian vehicle in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City. The car was carrying seven children, three women, and a man when it was struck by the occupation army.

I’ve been sick for a few days now — high fever, heavy congestion, and extreme exhaustion. There’s no medicine, no treatments, and no clean place to rest. I’m staying in a tent that lacks even the most basic conditions for recovery. I'm doing my best to hold on. Prayers and support mean a lot right now. chuffed.org/project/146990-k…

In Mad Men, Michael Ginsberg calls the computer a demon and it coincides with his schizophrenic break. He was completely right. The esteem in which people hold AI/LLMs is religious, they seek its counsel and ask it to prophesy and surrender to it.

We’ve long talked about things like people, as a form of affection. Cars, ships, anything we marvel at. Men especially love to do it, referring to the aforementioned as ‘she’ (e.g, of a car, “take care of her and she’ll take care of you) But that implied stewardship. Not service

The only correct way to treat the proliferation for AI in every facet is as if it were a demon. Salt circles and warding signs and sanctified spaces that we airgap and vigilantly guard. It should only ever be a specialised tool, not a companion.

the wide availability of fast fashion has distorted what people consider to be "affordable" clothing. $30 for a button-up shirt is now considered "not affordable" not because people can't pay it, but bc $5 options exist. this puts further downward pressure on garment worker wages

Some of the highest incident rates of phone thefts and the govt wants your very important id card to be used in all facets of your life… on your phone. Fucking morons.

that's no reason to have it, the values that matter are what should be looked at. malta has it, and you use it to manage govt services and pay taxes, but it didn't have the UKs current infrastructure for online services. it also didn't just push to verify ID online...

Yeah, as if this isn’t about collecting IDs, tying them to social media to prove your age (for now, it will be mandatory later) and the. Directly punishing you for dissent. Fuck off. Who are these stenographers?
Classic / authoritarian racists don't want ID cards 👇🏽 but most ordinary people do

I've got a birth certificate, driving licence, a passport, and an NI number. You know who I am. I am not the problem.
BREAKING: Digital ID to be made law for all adults in the UK. The proposals are the government's latest attempt to tackle illegal immigration, with the ID serving as a form of proof of the right to live and work in the UK. @MhariAurora reports. trib.al/ccTgxuY

Understand what this means. I work alongside a foreign national. We do the same job side by side for five years. We pay the same income tax and national insurance. We get made redundant. I can claim unemployment benefit. My former colleague cannot. This is racist.
Nigel Farage has said he would scrap welfare for “foreign-born nationals”. The Reform UK leader said, “we are here to make massive future cuts to welfare” and that under his government, it would be for “for UK citizens only”. Follow live UK politics: trib.al/XL9kRRJ
