A tiny piece of my life story covered by @guardian.

27 Sep 2020, we woke up to a WAR that continues to this day. Not for a second have we known rest, peace, or comfort since. Endless thoughts & prayers for those who fell in #Artsakh, in our paradise.

Beginning of the Ethnic Cleansing in #Artsakh.
No one was born or raised to know how to commemorate Ethnic cleansing of one's own people, what to say, or how to behave that day.
I am no exception.
We are dead inside - alive outside.

Three years ago today, humanity failed. Once again.
On 19.09.2023 #Azerbaijan launched its military offensive against #Artsakh/#NagornoKarabakh. Within days, my homeland was emptied of its indigenous Armenian population.
The world watched. Artsakh was emptied. Humanity failed.
That was the most hilarious part of the clownery trip to Artsakh when the Azeri woman, with pride, admitted she couldn't read the script on the gravestone.
Next time, hire an Armenian translator to actually read the script and take notes while learning the history of those lands
Всё это было бы смешно, когда бы не было так грустно.
Magdalena Grono visited the Matenadaran
"She explored the rich collection of Armenian manuscripts, as well as the traditions of preserving and processing ancient manuscripts and producing replicas for museum display"

Armenia–Azerbaijan "Peace & Cooperation" ERA:
🇦🇲: pashinyan goes deep into Lake Sevan
🇦🇿: cheering in ethnically cleansed #Artsakh, Christian churches being called "Caucasian Albanian" - no response from the 🇦🇲 side, but 🇦🇿 blames pashinyan for not calling Sevan “Goyche.”
🇦🇿 spreads hatred towards 🇦🇲 at every level, calling sovereign Armenian territory “Western Azerbaijan” & imprisoning those who advocate for REAL peace
Armenia’s ruling party tells everyone not to “anger our neighbours” or jeopardise the peace they claim to have established
An Azerbaijani court has sentenced Maharram Goyushoglu, the head of the Gazakh Regional Development Resources public association, to eight years in prison, with four years suspended.
Maharram Goyushoglu is the latest civil Azerbaijani civil society member to be sent to prison as part of the ‘NGO case’.

Can we really expect long-lasting peace from such toxic dynamics? I’m a realist; this doesn’t create stability. It creates a path toward the complete erasure of Armenian(s) from the region; that is just a matter of time for them.
🇦🇲: The Tour of Armenia, a professional international cycling race, takes place on the commemoration day of the 2022 war, when 200 Armenians were killed, including women whose bodies were mutilated & this ended with 🇦🇿 occupying parts of Armenia’s sovereign territory.

My new op-ed on the grotesque spectacle of Western diplomats touring an emptied Nagorno-Karabakh, dancing, posing at monuments to ethnic cleansing built over the ruins of Armenian homes, while lending their presence to Baku’s historical revisionism.

It’s impossible to put into words how I’ve felt these past few days watching yet another charade organised by AZ govt, this time using foreign diplomats, including senior #EU officials who have been directly involved in peace-building & personally know ppl expelled from #Artsakh.
Perfectly spent weekend in #Gandzasar, 13th-century #Armenia|n Apostolic cathedral near the village of #Vank in the #Martakert region of the Republic of #Artsakh.

2. @HikmetHajiyev, becoming a high-level official by fate or fortune doesn’t magically give you basic knowledge. Those “manuscripts” are literally museum replicas, something every museum uses. You expected us to leave behind priceless originals? What a joke.
Thanks @Altay!!! If there is still hope for justice, it's only thanks to people/ scholars like you
Also, #FREEBahruz, & all political prisoners kept in #Baku- an issue those diplomats seem to have forgotten to mention: being charmed & taken by the beauty of the homeland, #Artsakh
Nobody in Azerbaijani history called that part of Azerbaijan “East Zangezur.” The term was introduced by Aliyev immediately after the 2020 war. That invention alone showed how meaningless his rhetoric about peace was: if there is an “East Zangezur,” then logically there must also be a “West Zangezur” — and we all know where that refers to.
Azerbaijani history books also teach that the whole of Zangezur is sacred Azerbaijani land. European diplomats are not so ignorant that they are unaware of this context. Yet they continue to encourage and repeat this rhetoric.
So how can one believe that this kind of Europe genuinely wants peace in our region?
In this respect, I see little difference between Russian and European attitudes toward the region: the same divide-and-rule approach, the same cultivation of enmity, and the same imperial logic.
This does not mean that, by supporting Aliyev’s rhetoric today, Europeans are necessarily “siding with Azerbaijan.” Today they may endorse Aliyev’s irredentist rhetoric; tomorrow, with the same enthusiasm, they may support precisely the opposite position.
In either case, it is local people who will suffer. And their suffering sometimes seems to be treated as an acceptable price for the interests, growth, and prosperity of those who call themselves the civilized world.
Mrs. @MagdalenaGrono you know better than anyone the history, background & essence of ARTSAKH.
You also know, that true peace requires acknowledging history and protecting the cultural heritage & people of the land you were standing at, but not eliminating their traces.
Replying to @EUSR_SCCiG
Deeply diverging views and narratives persist, for instance on origins of some sites and would need to be addressed between 🇦🇿 and 🇦🇲 to also overcome this aspect of past conflict as part of their broader reconciliation efforts. (5/6)
I went HOME
I could see our highest peaks, Qirs, Mrov, the mountains I used to hike. We drove as close as we could, until roads that once took me Home became trenches, where Arm/Az are still debating who controls which heights
I was HOME, the only place where my soul finds peace
