ALT Bodily Autonomy For All: GP-Led, Informed Consent Based Trans Healthcare & Ban Intersex Gential Mutilation Both trans & intersex people are not awarded basic bodily autonomy or the right to make medical decisions about our own bodies. The struggle for trans & intersex rights are therefore intertwined with each other. Trans healthcare restricts hormone replacement therapy from trans people with a waiting list of up to a decade, alongside a dehumanising psychiatric model of care. We call for an GP-Led, Informed Consent Based model of Trans Healthcare which empowers trans people to make decisions about their transition themselves. We call for an end to the inhuman practice of IGM. IGM is often performed on intersex children when they are born. They are done usually for cosmetic reasons rather than medical necessity. These surgeries reinforce the gender binary by setting to ‘fix’ intersex people’s bodies to fit gender norms, while causing long-lasting physical and mental harm.

ALT Decriminalisation of Sex Work & Solidarity with Sex Workers: A disproportionate number of trans, intersex and queer people work as sex workers, showing how interlinked the struggle for sex workers rights and trans rights are. We call for the full decriminalisation of sex work due to the fact that the current laws in Ireland have failed to protect sex workers from violence and exploitation. We also stand firmly in solidarity with sex workers in their fight to improve their working conditions including being able to organise and form active, fighting trade unions with sex workers at the forefront!

ALT Solidarity With Migrants & Organising a Fightback against the Far Right: Currently the far-right are whipping racist rhetoric against migrants and asylum seekers in a vile attempt to promote their own fascist politics. From burning down migrants’ tents to protesting outside hotels housing migrants, the far right are being allowed to spread fear and intimidate those who came here to start a better life. We can’t rely on either the political establishment or the Gardaí to protect migrant communities, it suits the Irish state very well to have division within the working class to stop us uniting against the real problem: them and the rich. We send our solidarity to migrants and asylum seekers and demand an end to Direct Provision as well. We fully commit to building an anti-racist, anti-capitalist movement against the far right

ALT Housing For All: Trans people are disproportionately affected by the housing crisis as they are more likely to be unemployed or stuck in low paying jobs. Many are also forced to stay in the closet to avoid being kicked out by their transphobic families. While the far right are trying to blame the housing crisis on migrants, we understand that the lack of adequate and affordable housing is due to the inaction of the Irish state to fund and build social housing. The problem lies with the fact housing is a commodity, rather than a human right. The Irish government allows property developers to build up land and leave it to lay vacant to drum up costs. We call for the end of the rule of landlords. This includes a huge investment from the state to build affordable housing including social housing, implementing rent controls and an end to housing as a commodity.
