Lots happened @INITIALISE_EU since it kicked off. 2 new partners, papers in top tier journals (including one coming out soon), this year large scale #multiomics studies being initiated (incl #glycomics, new addition), mechanistic studies in high gear.
Next year mtg in Stockholm.
Great annual @INITIALISE_EU meeting in Naples. Great progress, publications, and much more to come this year. Welcome also to new project partner @GGlycoscience @GordanLauc

Good scientific start of the year: the study led by my friend and colleague @jingyuan_fu is published in @Nature! This work is focused on deletions and duplications of microbial genes and how they are related to human genetic variants. @GroMicrobiome @UMCGgenetica @LifelinesNL
Out now! Host genetics influence gut microbiome structure. A-blood-type-linked carbs secreted to mucus fuel gut microbes. Kudos to the amazing teamwork of @HermieHarm2388,D. Zhernakova, @DaomingWang1 @_LeiLiu @GroMicrobiome @UMCGgenetica @researchumcg 🙌 nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Excellent review by Clare @lloyd_lab & @sejalsaglani @ImperialNHLI @ImperialPaeCH on early life interactions btw a developing immune system, colonizing microbes and protective/damaging environmental factors with longterm consequences for lung health: nature.com/articles/s41590-0…

ALT A balance between external exposures (environment, viral and bacterial infections) during a critical period of immune and lung Fig 3: development (the first 5 years of life) determines protective innate immune responses and healthy lung function, or pathological responses resulting in reduced and irreversible lung function with poor long-term outcomes. Targeted interventions during this period of immune and lung development are needed to allow catch-up in lung growth and disease modification.

Researchers @BioscienceTurku and @InFLAMES_Health have identified a gene expression signature that can predict the progression of type 1 diabetes. One benefit of such predictive signature could be the ability to intervene earlier in the disease process. utu.fi/en/news/press-release…

Busy 1st day @INITIALISE_EU kickoff in Turku. Setting up #multiomics longitudinal studies across multiple birth cohort studies, with many different outcomes, is quite challenging, but we are well on the way.
Now time for 1st consortium dinner!
@BioscienceTurku @InFLAMES_Health
After a virtual kickoff in January, now followed by F2F meeting in Turku, plus an open minisymposium on 26.4. with several of our PIs as guest speakers.
