On this day in 1890, Eddie Rickenbacker is born in Columbus, Ohio.
Owner of IMS from 1927 through 1945, Rickenbacker made his name as a WWI fighter pilot and four-time #Indy500 entrant before owning the track.

Thanks to scholarships sponsored by Arrow Electronics, these creative and curious problem-solvers followed the road to race day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
π From branding and budgeting to building a car and modifying it for speed, students discovered that making it to the finish line requires far more than a good driver.

117 years ago today, Louis Schwitzer won a two-lap, standing-start race β the first automobile race held at IMS. The race initiated three days and 18 events of action, with Louis Chevrolet and Ray Harroun among its winners.
