From a North Carolina Civil Air Patrol Cadet's Mom. A great testimony describing the value of Civil Air Patrol's Cadet Program. Posted with permission.
Just wanted to share a quick story.
I have twin boys who are 13. One is a Tech Sergeant, and the other is a Staff Sergeant, and both are Element Leaders. Yesterday, one of my sons received a text after sending out the call-downs for the day of the meeting. He was told that he would no longer be responsible for sending the call-downs and was given the name of someone else to send them to.
The look of disappointment on his face said everything. He knew immediately that it was a consequence—and, in his eyes, a demotion.
He had been told at least five times to make sure the call-downs were sent no later than Saturday. School had started, and he continued to forget, ultimately sending them out at the last minute.
As a parent, I am incredibly grateful for the lesson he learned. The minute he received that text, he knew exactly what he had done wrong. There were no excuses, no blaming anyone else, and no argument about the consequence. Instead, I saw disappointment turn into determination. He wants to do better, earn back that responsibility, and prove that he can be trusted with it again.
If I could teach my kids one thing above all else, it would be accountability. You are going to make mistakes. You are going to disappoint people. But you own it, learn from it, do better, and work to earn that second chance.
And sometimes, a 13-year-old needs to experience a real consequence to truly understand that lesson.
I just want to say how grateful we are for all of our leaders, senior members, and everyone who puts their time and effort into shaping these kids into the future leaders they have the potential to become. These lessons extend far beyond CAP, and I know they will stay with my boys for a very long time.
Thank you for holding them accountable.

Aim High...Fly-Fight-Win!
After the Sept. 11 attacks on Sept 12th, Civil Air Patrol aircrews were requested to fly reconnaissance and damage-assessment flights over the World Trade Center in New York City. During those flights, CAP members took some of the first aerial photos used by emergency management agencies for assessment.
CAP members filled critical positions in emergency operations centers and also transported thousands of pints of blood all over the country that otherwise would have spoiled and become unusable. Since the Sept. 11 attacks, CAP members have continued to perform homeland security missions over critical infrastructure sites throughout the United States.
We are Civil Air Patrol volunteers.

Today Civil Air Patrol volunteers from around Illinois came together at Dacy Airport in Harvard for emergency services training. Even though weather prevented Civil Air Patrol aircraft from participating, attendees were able to qualify in some aircrew tasks and also trained with drones. #youthdevelopment #GoFlyCAP – at Belleville, IL
For veterans who miss the camaraderie, the teamwork, and the feeling of contributing to something bigger, Civil Air Patrol is a powerful way to reconnect with that spirit. Whether it’s guiding youth, supporting missions, or sharing hard‑earned wisdom, CAP lets you keep serving your your state, and your nation. The uniform may be different—but the mission still matters. #KeepServing #YouthDevelopment Join CivilAirPatrol
