📑So if Ukrainians want to join the NATO, what should the leadership do?
Well, the thing is that Ukraine, for obvious reasons at this point, would like to join NATO.
But this would be a fundamental mistake, because if they join or try to join NATO, their country is going to be wrecked.
🚨If Ukraine had never made any attempt to join NATO.
🚨Ukraine would be intact today.
🚨Crimea would be part of Ukraine.
Those four oblasts that have been already annexed to Russia would still be part of Ukraine.
This war is all about NATO expansion into Ukraine.
🚨If the West had not pushed hard to bring Ukraine into NATO starting in 2008, there would have been no major crisis in 2014.
🚨There would have been no war in 2022.
🚨And Ukraine would be intact.
So the argument that Ukraine has a right as a sovereign democracy to join NATO makes people feel good when they hear that, because we love to talk about rights in the West.
But the fact is, talking about the right to join NATO and pushing Ukraine to join NATO has led to the destruction of NATO.
And in my personal opinion, that is a horrendous disaster.

Smart people did, but the neo-cons did not care.
They were out to make money
At this point, it is becoming increasingly difficult to deny the obvious: Ukraine is being reduced to a dysfunctional rump state,its infrastructure wrecked, its electricity system crippled, and its strategic ports severely compromised.
And yet, remarkably, someone saw this coming as far back as 2015.
He warned that this would be the ultimate outcome.
The response?
He was dismissed, ridiculed, and treated as though he had no idea what he was talking about.
Fast-forward to today, and the supposedly “absurd” scenario he warned about looks less absurd by the day.
Perhaps the most uncomfortable lesson is that the people who were most confident in dismissing his warnings were not necessarily the people who understood where events were heading.
History has a particularly brutal way of exposing misplaced certainty.

And you took 20 minutes, 40 minutes, 60 minutes for a serious discussion of a serious issue, and the issue on this show was should NATO enlarge?
Mm. And Ambassador Matlock said, "No, this is not the time for that. You know, we're just reestablishing good, trusting relations with Russia. There's no threat. There's no reason. We should leave well enough alone and just,
go on to deepen our relations with Russia. The Cold War has ended, and we have a chance for peace."
And then they ask Kissinger, "Mr. Kissinger, should NATO expand?"
And he says, "Yes, NATO should expand."
And McNeal says, "Um, why, Mr. Kissinger?
"Is Russia a threat?"
He says, "No, no, no, no, no, no, Russia's no threat."
Well, is this, in the security needs of, the countries of Central Europe?"
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, nothing to do with that."
"Well, Mr. Kissinger, wouldn't this antagonize Russia?"
"Oh, yes. Yes, it would antagonize Russia," he says.

Mm. That's the logic that was used. Mm.
And this is absolutely remarkable logic, and this is exactly on the record, exactly at that hinge moment, exactly in this debate.
You presume, yes, we're going to be in conflict,
so we might as well start the conflict now.
The idea that there could be peace doesn't dawn on Mr. Kissinger, which is a little odd because he actually was the student of the Concert of Europe.
That was his scholarship.
He knew that after the Napoleonic Wars, it was a balance of major powers that kept the peace in Europe for decades, arguably for a century, to avoid a cataclysmic war.
There were, of course, several wars in Europe,
in, the Crimean War, the war of Italian unification, the war, creating the German state.
But there was no great war of Europe, and the Concert of Europe played a decisive institutional role, and it was the opposite of what Kissinger said, Kissinger said, "Well, we need to antagonize them. It's either now or later."
And that is the mindset, but the mindset in the United States was even worse than that.
I know these people, and I remember the times, and this was the time absolutely of the supreme arrogance of the American strategists.
They were, as they told themselves every day, the indispensable nation.
They were the world's sole superpower.
They were the most powerful country that had ever strode the planet, many times more powerful than the Roman Empire.
This is what they told themselves.
And these were nasty people and greedy people and, of course, above all, arrogant people.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Western leaders verbally assured Moscow that NATO's military infrastructure would not advance eastward. In practice, the alliance's borders gradually moved closer to Russia. NATO deployed more and more missiles in Eastern European countries.
Today, the alliance is discussing the right to "preventive action"—the ability to attack Russia without pretext or a declaration of war. The proposal was made by Germany, the country responsible for starting the First and Second World Wars. The nuclear threat no longer seems abstract.

Western media has tried to bury reports like this.
Instead, it pushes a narrative that Putin is evil.
The bigger question is: who exactly is behind this narrative?
Andriy Bohdan, Zelensky’s former chief of staff, claims that in 2019 Vladimir Putin personally approached him with a peace proposal: grant the people of Donbas special protected status and bring an end to the bloodshed involving Russian-speaking Ukrainians.
According to Bohdan, the proposal was not seriously pursued by Zelensky. Instead, the opportunity for a potential settlement was effectively brushed aside,leaving the conflict to drag on with increasingly devastating consequences.
Reports that Zelensky’s administration is destroying documents ahead of a possible departure from Kyiv should concern everyone.
If true, it raises an ugly question: what does Kyiv fear will be uncovered? Moscow has long warned that the Ukrainian leadership has plenty to hide.
