Advancing South Sudan’s Democratic Transition The IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, H.E. @MoussaDjama11, accompanied by the IGAD Head of Mission to South Sudan, met with the Chairperson and Secretary-General of the National Elections Commission to discuss electoral preparedness and progress towards the country’s elections. IGAD’s Director of Health and Social Development, Ambassador Moussa, received a delegation from GIZ, led by Katharina, for discussions on strengthening cooperation in the region. The meeting explored the continuation of the SIMPI programme, potential EU funding opportunities, and shared priorities in climate action, peacebuilding and trade. Both sides acknowledged progress under SIMPI and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining its gains. 🌍 Building Connected Infrastructure for Regional Integration. #IGAD is advancing regional connectivity through the IGAD Regional Infrastructure Master Plan (IRIMP), a framework that brings together energy, transport, ICT and water projects to help Member States pool resources and deliver high-impact cross-border investments. Strengthening Regional Coordination for Health Security. #IGAD and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) concluded a three-day inter-Regional Economic Communities meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, with recommendations to strengthen cross-border health preparedness, regional surveillance, sustainable financing, and local manufacturing of essential health products. The meeting brought together representatives of five Regional Economic Communities (RECs)—@SADCNews, COMESA, @jumuiya, IGAD and @CEEAC_ECCAS—alongside @ECSA_HC, African Union agencies, the World Bank, WHO and other regional and international partners. In his closing remarks, IGAD Director of Health and Social Development, Amb.
