IFTA, in association with Screen Ireland, is pleased to present a TV Showrunner Masterclass with Ronan Bennett, BAFTA-winning & IFTA-nominated writer and showrunner whose credits include Top Boy, The Day of the Jackal, MobLand, and Gunpowder.
A snippet from our IFTA Academy Members Screening and Q&A with director Frank Berry of ‘The Lost Children of Tuam’, moderated by Áine Moriarty.
Frank reflects on some key scenes in the film that showcase Catherine Corless’ selfless work connecting with survivors, and hearing their own personal stories at her kitchen table.

“When we arrived to Catherine’s house, Aidan (her husband) put out a red carpet in front of the house. And then I saw Monica put on Catherine’s wellies, and off they went on their walk out back, and they just clicked.”

IFTA was delighted to welcome Academy Members to a screening of ‘The Lost Children of Tuam’, followed by a thought-provoking & insightful Q&A with Director Frank Berry and Áine Moriarty in the IFI ☘️
Brought to the screen with extraordinary sensitivity and care by IFTA-winning Irish director Frank Berry (Aisha, Michael Inside), this powerful story tells how Catherine Corless’s research uncovered the devastating truth at the Mother and Baby Home in Tuam.
Her work brought a long-hidden chapter of Irish history to light and sparked a campaign for justice for victims and survivors.
The Lost Children of Tuam is in Irish cinemas from Friday, 25th September.

The film is written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (The Salt Path) and Frank Berry and based on the New York Times article by Dan Barry, which was optioned for the screen by Liam Neeson.

IFTA, in association with Screen Ireland, is pleased to present a TV Showrunner Masterclass with Ronan Bennett, BAFTA-winning & IFTA-nominated writer and showrunner whose credits include Top Boy, The Day of the Jackal, MobLand, and Gunpowder.
In IFTA Masterclass, Ronan will share his knowledge and expertise as a leading international showrunner, offering insights into developing a series, building and leading a writers’ room, and working with producers, broadcasters and directors to shape a unified creative vision.
He will explore what it means to be a showrunner in modern TV-making, alongside a case study of one of his major television projects.
