I spent the last three days at a top tier policy conference. Several senior ministers, technocrats, economists etc.
Hugely stimulating, there’s *so* much good econ research to be done, even in an AI age. Whole sectors where the welfare consequences of better info could be huge.
#WATCH | Delhi | On Kautilya Economic Conclave, Associate Professor of Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics, Abhijeet Singh says, "It is very rare to have such a frank discussion among a carefully curated group that includes senior policymakers and people who have been instrumental in reforms across multiple countries, while discussing a topic that is highly relevant to India and to the world at large... What a conclave like this does is build connections and, importantly, facilitate the sharing of ideas. For example, what is Indonesia doing that India could adopt..."

VIDEO | After speaking at Kautilya Economic Conclave in Delhi, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat (@gssjodhpur) says, "How can we work towards preserving our cultural heritage through tourism and, at the same time, promoting tourism through our cultural heritage? When I was asked to speak on this subject, I felt that it was directly connected with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Heritage as well as Development.” I presented the subject in the context that the two are not contradictory to each other; rather, they complement each other. Earlier, we used to look at culture primarily from the perspective of conservation, or assess it in terms of how much money the government was spending on it. Now the time has come to look at how many jobs we are creating through culture, how we can monetize it to create economic opportunities, how we can decentralize the economy, how many craftsmen we can empower, and how many opportunities we can provide to homestays. At the same time, we need to consider how, through the economy generated by all these activities, we can preserve our cultural heritage. I spoke about how we can create a virtuous cycle in this manner. I believe that discussions of this kind certainly bring new thinking, new energy, and new inspiration."

#WATCH | Delhi: Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat says, "...in the past, we viewed culture primarily through the lens of conservation or assessed it based on government expenditure; however, the time has come to evaluate it by the number of jobs created, the economic opportunities generated through monetisation, the extent of economic decentralisation, the empowerment of artisans, and the opportunities provided to homestays. I also addressed how the economy generated through these activities enables us to preserve our culture and heritage, thereby creating a virtuous cycle. I believe that such discussions undoubtedly foster new thinking, energy, and inspiration."
