Our first Northern Ireland branch meeting in quite some time. It’s great to be back and welcome our CIHT colleagues.

With air temperatures of about 23 degrees C, road surfaces can reach temperatures of more than double that. As shown here, poorly designed surface dressing or products used inappropriately, the road can literally melt. This problem will get worse as UK summers get warmer.

Maybe if the potholes were repaired properly first time around it would make for a much more efficient use of your budget. Your repairs currently do not meet any standard or the Specification.

Why does @deptinfra continue to allow work that is clearly outside the Spec? Cl. 946 of SHW specifies edges must be cut and that joints are painted. Is it that the operatives / foremen / supervisors don't know Spec or don't care? Work in 2nd pic is <4 months old. #trainingneeded

This one was only a few weeks old. Joint faces not painted or sealed. Throwing good money after bad....again
A very interesting and informative day at Highways England Graphene Innovation day at GEIC Manchester. Lots of great ideas from the Highway experts who attended.

This is an example of reactive maintenance / patching being poor value for money. 2 new patches required either side of an earlier patch, thus creating more joints and opportunity for ingress of water to the road structure. @Dicko1945 @mrpotholeuk @deptinfra
