You don’t need the perfect speech to interrupt an anti-LGBTQIA+ remark.
“That’s not how we speak about people here” is a start. Check in with the person affected, too. In a faith community, speaking up helps show that dignity is more than a welcome sign.
A clinic can be open to everyone and still feel unsafe to use. Experts warn that gay and bisexual men in South Africa face gaps in STI testing and care without judgement. Healthcare must be informed, respectful and safe enough for people to seek it.

Removing a hateful sign does not erase the harm. The SAHRC has welcomed the Gqeberha Equality Court ruling, which affirms that discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people carries consequences, including when it happens online.
