I’ll pin this thread - so linking my old pinned thread for memory’s sake.
Every day I become more convinced: housing (cost, commute time, carbon load) is the greatest failure of California politics.

.@chrislhayes: Any so-called moderates in the Republicans caucus who spent the last few weeks expressing just how concerned they were about supporting an election denier—they ended up caving to the Big Lie majority. Fully. All of them. Unanimous.

Contrary to popular belief, suburbs are *not* more financially productive than walkable neighborhoods. As @UrbanThree has shown in cities across North America, the opposite is true.

How is "Democrats are bullshitting you about the importance of this election" still a thing in 2023? The resist lib winemoms were doomsaying about Trump back in 2016, history proved them 100% correct, and the "left" tries to gaslight people into thinking they were hysterical

Ken Buck on CNN: "I don't want someone who was involved in the activities of January 6 ... There's no way we win the majority if the message we send to the American people is we believe in the election was stolen, and we believe that January 6 was a tour of the Capitol."

a perfect microcosm of this moment: a white Western activist scolding one of the most pre-eminent Palestinian scholars for being, in her view, insufficiently radical

It really is quite surprising how Fetterman has emerged as the best voice on this issue in Congress. Kudos.
Two things can be true at the same time: I unequivocally stand with Israel and demand the immediate release of all hostages. I grieve for all innocent Palestinian lives lost. We must minimize suffering in Gaza and our humanitarian aid efforts must match the need.

Update: On AJ English now, they updated the story to say Wael Daheough reported on that very airstrike without knowing his family was among the victims.
During an Al Jazeera segment on Israel's bombing of Al-Wafa Hospital, they needed to pause to update viewers that Israeli airstrikes had also just killed the wife and children of one of their reporters, Wael Dahdouh in an airstrike on a refugee camp they were ordered to flee to.

This is hard-core old-school French stuff: a small box you can plug into an old Minitel (a sort of French-only precursor to the world-wide-web) to bring it back to life. blog.jgc.org/2023/09/breathi…

I know Santos is funny, an icon, etc., But it's sad seeing a gay man vote for a speaker who 1. Thinks his marriage should be annulled and 2. Thinks that being gay should be criminalized.
