VAR is a system that is only effective when you have the right people in charge, and I'm not confident we have those right people in the Premier League to make it work (to begin with).
Premier League clubs have agreed in principle to introduce Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to the competition in the 2019/20 season More: preml.ge/1bibBJ

If this reported insider information about City's potential punishment is to be believed... this is an incredibly underwhelming and decisively poor moment for the Premier League. Their punishment should be empathic given it covers 16 years of cheating - not a slap on the wrist.

A woeful performance from Newcastle tonight... the problem is, the only thing I can think of related to the Premier League is the City situation and wondering how much this awful performance, and any moving forward, really means.
Full-time.

The Premier League's descent into a farce of a season began in earnest this afternoon. What a mess. City top of a league they may be kicked out of in a few months. It felt like another bad day for English football today.

How long is the stench of the “sham” going to corrode the meaning, worth, and very essence of the Premier League? Listening to commentary about Manchester City’s players matching the defiance of their ownership and triumphing in adversity. Listening to fans chorusing the names of the men running the club, wearing masks or displaying banners of their faces and jibing: “We’re Man City, we’ll cheat when we want.” Victory being framed as “a lovely moment,” a show of togetherness as though some grave injustice has been imposed on City, rather than their hierarchy being found by an independent commission to have orchestrated financial doping on an industrial scale. Their opponents and the rest of us wondering if any of this actually matters now and how much of it ever did? There can be no business as usual pretence. We need a full stop to the absurdity.

Two things. It is no longer an accusation, the charges have been proven without doubt. Second, Maresca and the PR City are putting out to attempt to control the narrative is vile. Chelsea were not given this much breathing room when Roman was basically 'forced' to sell up.
Enzo Maresca says he doesn't feel Manchester City's titles have been tainted, despite the club being found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching.

If you can't make up in your mind as a Newcastle supporter like myself if this is a better club crest, it means there has been a step back. I think there is a lot of good in the new crest, and is a modern take that at least looks like Newcastle, but something is off.

City get today in July and then say screw it, let's spend a tonne more money in the transfer market.
Sources say Man City knew of guilty verdicts in the summer... 👀

I don't think many expected anything less than a shameless, delusional statement from a club who have tarnished and last decade of the Premier League's history. City are done.

This is quite the read. City's punishment has to be severe.

It all means nothing unless the sanctions are worth it. A big fine will do nothing but worsen professional football.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Manchester City found guilty on virtually all charges relating to breaches of Premier League financial regulations. #MCFC expected to appeal against verdict issued by independent commission. Sanctions undecided, process ongoing @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7049721…

FIFA in utter shambles, day after day.
FIFA statement, attributable to FIFA spokesperson: Echoing the recent statements of CONMEBOL and CAF, as well as discussions with FIFA Member Associations and Confederations from around the world, FIFA will not support, facilitate or tolerate any process concerning the election of the FIFA President that is inconsistent with FIFA’s Statutes, democratic procedures and established governance framework. The FIFA President was democratically elected by FIFA’s Member Associations and continues to serve with their mandate. It is increasingly evident that there is a concerted and ongoing effort by some to undermine FIFA and its President. Those who do not have the support of FIFA’s Member Associations should not seek to achieve through allegation, insinuation or misinformation what they cannot achieve through FIFA’s established democratic processes. Recent reporting has included unsubstantiated assertions and demonstrably false claims concerning FIFA and its President. Speculation and insinuation should not be presented as fact, and repetition does not make an allegation true. The FIFA President has dedicated more than 30 years of his professional life to European and world football, contributing to significant change in the game and, in particular, to broadening access, resources and opportunity across world football. Change inevitably challenges established interests, but disagreement with that change cannot justify efforts to undermine the democratic mandate of FIFA’s President or the institution he was elected to lead. FIFA welcomes legitimate scrutiny. But scrutiny is not a licence to distort facts, amplify unsubstantiated allegations or manufacture distractions designed to undermine progress. Where reporting is inaccurate or misleading, FIFA will challenge it directly and vigorously. FIFA’s responsibility is to its 211 Member Associations and to football around the world. We will not be distracted or diverted from strengthening the organisation, delivering for our Member Associations and continuing the work of making football truly global. Through the FIFA President and the FIFA administration, our focus remains firmly on that mission, and we are more determined than ever to fulfil it.

The gold trim is too pale and could use the deeper yellow/orange instead. This is not the crest though for Newcastle, it looks AI driven and cheap.
Supporters are starting to receive their email to vote on the proposed new crest Poll will close on 27th August at 12pm. Supporters can select their top two options with the winning design considered by the club for adoption. #NUFC

This list alone should be enough for UEFA to just leave and do it own thing.
Football associations around the world are picking their side when it comes to the future of FIFA president Gianni Infantino 👀🌍

A combination of Tuchel messing up England's chances, and Hower leaving Newcastle, it's probably a good time to switch off from professional football for a while. Incredibly odd timing for Howe's departure. Feels like it was a sudden move.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Eddie Howe set to leave Newcastle United. All parties initially chose to continue but 48yo has informed #NUFC of decision to take break & will depart after 5yrs as head coach. Matthias Jaissle of Al Ahli lined up as replacement @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7479597…

Nothing says corruption like buying support with money that is meant for the development of the game - to ultimately sell the game to private and commercial firms.
BREAKING: Gianni Infantino has given football associations until the 19th September to back his plan to sell off part of FIFA to private investors with a $40m incentive to accept, a letter has revealed 🚨

Every. Damn. Day. Infantino needs to leave the planet. I've had enough of this corrupt football politician. The game is being destroyed, plain and simple.
