Now look at them. 🌳 This Forest Week, we're celebrating our forestry apprentices who began a rewarding journey to become Utility Arborists. Taken earlier this year in Barrie, the photo captures forestry apprentices and trainers coming together after weeks of learning, growth and teamwork. Today, they're developing the skills needed to safely manage vegetation around powerlines and help keep customers across Ontario connected.

Yesterday in Walkerton, we joined the community to celebrate the opening of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo. To power this five-day event, our crews installed 228 poles, 48 transformers and built nearly 14 kilometres of power lines. For more than 20 years, our teams have proudly built and operated the temporary electrical grid supporting 500 vendors and an expected 100,000 visitors. Wonderful to share the grounds with community leaders, elected officials and volunteers. Our lunch hour looked a little different this week. Employees came together to assemble kits for CNIB's Inclusive School Program, helping create more inclusive learning experiences for children with sight loss. What happens when learning moves beyond four walls? At Seventh Fire Junior High in Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation, students are trading screen for campfires, canoes and real-world experiences through the Get Outside program, supported by Hydro One. The program provides hands-on experiences that foster connection, personal growth and a deeper understanding of the natural world. Generator safety starts with proper use. Keep generators outside and away from your home, windows, doors and vents to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Never connect a generator directly to your home’s wiring or electrical panel unless a proper transfer device has been installed by a licensed electrical contractor. Backfeeding can energize utility lines and seriously injure or kill utility workers and others.

Outage restoration continues: Crews are out in full force restoring power after Wednesday’s severe storms caused outages across southwestern, central, and eastern Ontario. Additional outages occurred yesterday as thunderstorms moved through parts of southwestern Ontario, creating new restoration challenges in some areas. Additional resources have been deployed to help restore power in the hardest hit areas. For outages where damage has been assessed, estimated times of restoration (ETRs) are available. ETRs may change as crews continue to uncover additional damage as repairs are being made. If you see a downed power line, stay at least 10 metres back and report it to 911 and Hydro One. If you are using a generator, ensure that it is outside, far from any windows or vents.

That's why a group of employees got together to launch a resource group called Care that brings caregivers together through connection, shared learning and support. Caregivers represent approximately 35% of Canada's workforce, contributing valuable skills, resilience, and perspective to workplaces across the country.

When emergencies happen, communities need reliable access to essential services they can count on. That’s why the Hydro One Community Partnership Grant is supporting 31 municipalities and local charitable organizations this year. Through funding of up to $25,000, recipients will strengthen local emergency preparedness, support response efforts and help communities recover more quickly when emergencies occur. “In Ramara, the grant will help install backup power for critical drinking water. Peterborough County will improve emergency readiness through workshops, emergency kits and training. In Ignace, the investment will support emergency notifications, backup power and satellite communications. These are just a few examples of how the grants will help communities prepare, respond and recover,” said Spencer Gill, vice president, transmission system planning. If a power line falls on your vehicle stay inside. • Call 911. • Stay in your vehicle until your electricity provider and emergency response says it's safe. • Only leave the vehicle if it's unsafe to stay inside (ex. fire). If you must exit, jump clear without touching the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Land with both feet together and shuffle your feet as you move away to reduce risk of electric shock.
