This week, 1961, our fictional heroine Viv was on her Vespa going south from Montreal to the Adirondacks, my home.
(We know it was 1961 because that is when the 13th of October was a Friday, and because Ian wrote about 1 1/2 to 2 years ahead and the book came out in 1962.)

On International Women's Day we celebrate Moneypenny, private secretary to M, Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service.
Educated at Oxford University, Jane Moneypenny initially works at the Foreign Office, before being recruited by MI6 after WWII due to her language skills, intelligence and discretion. A trusted confidante, she is devoted to her top secret, eyes only, cabinet level job, and has little time for a personal life. Moneypenny enjoys a playful, flirtatious – though never consummated – relationship with 007.
She goes on to have her own adventures in Samantha Weinberg's The Moneypenny Diaries, and in Kim Sherwood's series is promoted to Head of the Double O Section.
