Opinion: I have long emphasized the importance of localization in Xbox games. As a global corporation, Microsoft should ensure that every Xbox game released in regions where the platform is supported also provides language support for that region—at the very least, translated text and subtitles. Now that Microsoft is placing such strong emphasis on AI, this is the perfect opportunity to leverage AI translation to assist developers in translating game scripts into local languages at minimal cost. In fact, the quality of AI translation today can sometimes surpass human work. Human reviewers would only need to make slight adjustments after the AI translation. More than 50% of global gaming revenue comes from Asia, and what gamers in this region care about most is whether a newly released game supports their language. If Xbox could guarantee that every game on its platform supports the local language, countless gamers worldwide would prioritize purchasing and playing games on Xbox.
