A federal report before the Science and Research Committee is making sweeping claims about language inequality in research funding that the government’s own data does not cleanly support. ISED told this committee in 2022 that federal research funding was equitable between both official languages. Four years later, its senior official says the core success-rate data is still true. The report does not stop at language access. It recommends race-based hiring targets, race-based scholarships and preferential scoring for certain applications. That is a dramatic expansion of Liberal identity politics and DEI criteria into Canadian research, where funding decisions should be driven first by scientific excellence, merit and value for taxpayers.
