🫣 Andrew Neil dismantles Labour’s Jonathan Reynolds in one of the most embarrassing moments of the year for the Business Secretary.
You’d think they’d know better, especially sat next to Andrew Neil — the best political journalist in the country, and better than just about anyone with stats, figures and detail.
Reynolds is on @bbcquestiontime boasting about the changes his government has made to get people off benefits and into work. Neil stops him in his tracks:
“Hold on. Your own official forecasts, the Office for Budget Responsibility, under the policies you’ve just talked about, show a relentless rise in the numbers claiming sickness benefit.”
Reynolds is already beginning to panic. He doubles down: “But the incentives have been changed. The amount of money you get has been changed.”
Neil: “Well it doesn’t matter if the numbers are still rising.”
That’s when Reynolds’ brain leaves the building. He says something that makes absolutely no sense given what Neil has just revealed:
“People talk about what they would like to do and what they would do with a system they left behind and then didn’t change. That’s the kind of substantial change that actually makes a difference.”
Can these politicians actually hear themselves? Does he know what he’s saying in response to what he’s just been told? It’s incredible.
Neil is totally baffled by what he’s listening to: “What substantial change have you made if the sickness numbers are still rising?”
Reynolds is now just digging in because he’s got nowhere to go: “If you remove the incentive for people to go straight onto that system, rather than being on universal credit…”
Neil cuts in with another reality check: “But the OBR forecast takes that policy into account and it still shows the numbers rising year after year after year, as does the bill. So what are you doing to make things better?”
Reynolds refuses to acknowledge what Neil is saying and just repeats the same things again.
Painful. They really are absolutely clueless. They think they can just deliver the talking points and no one will notice. That doesn’t work when you’re sat next to @afneil.
Imagine when they told him the seating plan and he realised who was sitting next to him. 😬😂

1. No chance Haaland plays in The Championship, most of your current team won’t.
2. It’s not just the sanctions you need to worry about, it’s very possible that you’ll be sued by up to 50 other clubs.
3. If your owners have committed fraud, they will very possibly be forced to sell the club.

In his haste, above all others, to vilify and demonise the world's only Jewish majority state, @MichealMartinTD did not raise the January slaughter of 40,000+ unarmed protesters (some lying on their hospital trollies) nor the 350,000+ maimed, nor the horrible catalogue of hangings since then. Children, women and men.
Rather he cited some unverified future 'full extent' of Gaza casualties, keeping the fires of hate against Israel stoked, while giving a complete pass to the world's most genocidal, war mongering, terrorist enabling, cannibalistic and antisemitic regime.

The case of Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi tells you something about Iran that statistics on protests never quite capture.
In 2024, she stood in an empty caravanserai and sang without a hijab. No demonstration... just a woman singing.
This week, an appeals court upheld her punishment:
74 lashes, 2 years barred from leaving Iran and 2 years barred from audiovisual and musical work.
7 others who helped produce the performance received the same penalties.
And I realized: Sometimes you can measure how threatened a system feels by the size of the thing it decides must be punished.
In this case, it was a song. And open hair. It breaks my heart. And will break her skin.

The two partygoers who found a tank and saved 30 lives.
Daniel and Neria Sharabi came to the Nova festival to dance.
Then the shooting started.
As Hamas terrorists stormed the festival, the brothers ran for their lives. A pickup truck of terrorists opened fire. An RPG hit a vehicle near them. In the chaos, they were separated from one of their friends, who was later taken hostage.
They kept running.
About half a kilometer from the festival, they reached a damaged Israeli tank.
Around 30 people were already taking cover there, terrified partygoers, wounded civilians and police officers.
Daniel and Neria were former combat soldiers.
But they knew almost nothing about tanks.
So Daniel called Yoni, an army officer he knew from his military service.
Yoni knew what to do.
With Yoni guiding them over the phone, the brothers climbed into the tank, searched for weapons and ammunition, put on combat helmets and began figuring out how to defend everyone around them.
Then they took command.
They organized the people around the tank, cared for the wounded and turned the disabled vehicle into a defensive position.
When terrorists advanced toward them, the brothers opened fire.
Again and again.
For hours, with very little ammunition, they held their position under gunfire and RPG attacks while Yoni continued guiding them remotely.
That morning, two guys who had come to dance at a music festival found themselves commanding a battlefield from a broken tank.
Around 30 people survived because of them.
Daniel was later chosen to light Israel’s Independence Day torch, representing the heroism of both brothers

The Times reports a former bodyguard to the leader of Hamas secured citizenship in Britain before plotting a terrorist attack. Restore Britain's policy here is strong.
A dual national who engages in terrorism, espionage, murder, rape, treasonous activity or similarly extreme conduct against Britain will lose British citizenship.
Citizenship obtained through fraud or deception will be revoked - a mass review of citizenships granted will be undertaken by a Restore Britain government.
Where an individual has renounced another nationality in an attempt to remain in our country, a Restore Britain government will seek agreements with relevant countries to facilitate the restoration of that earlier nationality, and then remove them.
Over time, we will seek to develop these arrangements into a broader network of bilateral agreements, providing a workable mechanism for dealing with cases in which deprivation of British citizenship is judged necessary - there will be many such cases.
The damage done through granting citizenships is vast, so much more than we will ever understand.
But a Restore Britain Government will do everything in its power to undo as much of that as possible.

🚨 IRAN SENTENCES SINGER TO 74 LASHES FOR PERFORMING WITHOUT HIJAB
Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi has been sentenced to 74 lashes, a 2-year travel ban and a 2-year ban on artistic activities over her viral December 2024 Caravanserai Concert, where she performed without a hijab.
Eight musicians and production crew members received the same punishment. The concert was streamed online and drew millions of views.

I’ve been warning about the spike in diesel prices, followed by shortages of supply, for several weeks now. Especially if Trump goes along with an export ban. A third of the diesel we import is from America, which is the world’s biggest diesel exporter (1.5m b/d). There are no alternative sources of supply. A US export ban would throw us into recession by Christmas. The economy, from farm machinery to road haulage, is powered by diesel.
The UK currently holds only 42 days of diesel in its emergency stockpiles. While the UK stands at just 42 days, countries like Italy hold 347 days, the USA has 677 days and Canada and Japan maintain over 1,000 days of supply.
In the early 2000s, Britain held over 100 days of diesel reserves. However, as major domestic oil refineries closed down over the years, the country's massive storage tanks disappeared with them, leaving the UK heavily reliant on just-in-time imports.
That is the jeopardy facing every supermarket shelf, every hospital delivery, every harvest, every bin collection and every freight train that still keeps Britain functioning. And the system that supplies that fuel security has been allowed to grow dangerously thin.
Meanwhile the UK’s ability to make that fuel itself has been dismantled. From eighteen refineries in the 1970s to nine at the turn of the century, Britain is now down to just four: Domestic demand already exceeded refining capacity before those closures. The gap is filled by imports - more than half of the diesel that goes into British tanks.
This has happened through a long succession of terrible government choices and neglect that treated energy security as an afterthought. Carbon costs were loaded onto plants that operate here, while higher-carbon fuel could be imported without equivalent burden. Almost every government over the past 20 years helped to create this looming crisis.
Diesel is the engine room of the economy. And successive governments have allowed the tanks to run towards empty.
