A reel came across my eyes today where someone was saying that a person who prays all five salah is somehow religious And honestly, I just sat there thinking… what are we even saying? When haram has become so normalized around us that praying five times a day is considered religious you know something is wrong with the way we’ve started looking at our deen. Since when did praying five times a day become something strange? Honestly, not praying should be strange. Missing salah should be something that bothers us, not something we’ve become comfortable with. I’ve seen African Arab Muslims who may have their own struggles, make mistakes, live completely normal lives, but when it comes to salah, they don’t play with it. Five prayers are just part of their everyday life. It’s not something that makes them “extra religious” it’s simply the basic thing they do as Muslims. And then I look at us in Pakistani society and wonder how we got so far from that. Someone who prays five times is called “very religious” while someone who barely prays is considered completely normal. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Between a man and shirk and kufr is the abandonment of prayer.” Sahih Muslim. Just think about that for a moment. Salah is that serious, yet we barely stop to think about it. Sometimes I feel like this is exactly what Shaytan wants to make us think, “You sin anyway, what’s the point of praying?” And slowly, we stop praying altogether. But Allah doesn’t tell us to stay away from Him because we sin. Keep turning back to Him. Repent. Ask for forgiveness. He will forgive you. I’m not saying this as someone who is perfect. I’m not. We all fall short. But even when you mess up, pray. Even when you feel ashamed, pray. Even when you think you’re not worthy, pray. Five salah a day shouldn’t make someone “too religious.” It should just be normal for a Muslim.
