Hundreds of thousands took to the streets across France last weekend to protest against the cost of living and public services.
One group that joined the cause was the Yellow Vests — a massive movement that stirred similar unrest in 2018.
So how does today’s demonstrations and discontent compare?
Fact check: Amanda Bland resigned from Reform UK. This is not about an "establishment" plot.
As it stands, Reform have lost 1 MSP member, nowhere has anyone said representation is lost forever.
@GBPolitcs has reported the facts as they stand. They don't have a political agenda and their news reporting is balanced - given the news at the time.
"Neutrality" isn't the same number of stories, it's reporting on topical stories - of which Reform is a very high one given the ITV investigation.
Don't fall for the spin on accounts like @GBPolitcs. It's a known anti-Reform campaign operation masquerading as a neutral news page, specifically designed to demoralize our base and trick people into thinking this seat is lost to us forever.
Here is the actual reality for @reformparty_uk supporters in Scotland:
The Ballot Mandate: Amanda Bland was elected solely because thousands of us marked the Reform box on the regional list ticket in Central Scotland. She has zero personal mandate.
How Holyrood Rules Work: Regional list seats belong to the party, not the individual. If she resigns as an MSP, there is no by-election—the seat automatically passes straight down to the next Reform candidate on our regional list.
The Game Plan: The establishment wants her sitting as an independent so they can claim Reform lost a seat while she hoards an MSP salary on our votes.
Don't let fake news front pages control the narrative. Sitting on a Reform list mandate as an independent is completely unacceptable. Share the truth, make noise, and demand she steps down as an MSP so our proper representation is restored.
French PM calls for partial curfews.
Doesn’t action them, doesn’t force them, just wants them.
3 days into riots and still no action. Weak and cowardly.
Didn’t you do an investigation, libel someone and have to pay them substantial damages of over £1m?
Hi @carolecadwalla, just wondering why you deleted your post criticising Jo Coburn being on Laura K talking about how she’s a Jew?
Fires burned on the streets of Paris on Sunday, 18 October 2026, as protests continued for a second night. In a televised address, President Emmanuel Macron said the country felt “anger and shame” after Saturday’s violence and that those who destroyed property “must pay”.
More than 2,000 people have been arrested across France since Saturday, according to the Interior Ministry.

Second day of violence in Milan as protesters clash with police

That was one of the weakest statements in the face of nationwide riots I have ever seen. Macron lacked authority, the threat of punishment and consequence.
He spoke like he was waiting to hear out the protestors instead of trying to get a grip on the devastation and destruction.
#BREAKING Macron says 'nothing justifies' violence in France protests, vows 'full transparency' over police response
A fire set by masked protesters has caused extensive damage to the town hall in Limoges, France, with the building’s roof collapsing onto the lower floors.
The fire broke out during nationwide demonstrations over the cost of living on Saturday. Witnesses said masked protesters broke windows and entered the building after setting a police car on fire outside.
Firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze, while several shops in central Limoges were also looted.

1. Hebrew to English Grok AI translation can go really, really wrong
2. "Onenut" is Hebrew for masturbation
I survived in @FtsyParliament's Number 10 Downing Street for 250 weeks as Prime Minister.
My most successful week blocking the Chinese super-embassy with the least successful policy being devolving housing powers to Holyrood (which is in fact the current arrangement).
What an incredible (and addictive!) simulator!

Germany's ruling CDU has closed its leadership meeting facing growing pressure after the far-right AfD secured a historic breakthrough in Saxony-Anhalt.
The election of AfD politician Tobias Rausch as president of the state parliament has intensified debate over Germany's political "firewall" that has long prevented cooperation with the party.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz reaffirmed his opposition to working with the AfD, warning that extremism is increasingly challenging Germany's democratic institutions.
With another key vote looming in Saxony-Anhalt and the AfD continuing to gain support nationally, the CDU faces mounting questions over how to counter the party's rise while maintaining its long-standing stance against cooperation.
