Bit of random trivia... before the bodies were removed from the vaults, the Medical Officer made sure everyone had extra vaccinations as there was concern that the lead coffins might have sealed in viruses such as smallpox, etc...
Random question of the day... over 80 bodies were in the vaults of the Queen Street Mission (now @thelbt). They were removed in 1970 and likely cremated and interred elsewhere, but doesn't anyone know where? An Examiner article from 1998 gives no clues...

Timothy and Betsy Bentley gifted money to help build the Queen Street chapel (now the LBT), which was reportedly the largest Wesleyan chapel in the country at the time, and it became known as "the chapel built on beer barrels".

And a small feature from 2 October 1979 marking the future society's first year. 45 years later @HuddsLocalHist is going from strength to strength and Cyril's still the chair! Well worth becoming a member if you're interested in local history :-) huddersfieldhistory.org.uk

Replying to @HuddExposed
Hickson had been putting forward ambitious schemes for over a decade. His proposal in 1930 predicted that private planes would replace cars, so roads in the town centre would need to be wide enough to land on -- he suggested widening several to be 80 feet wide.

I think this was the birth of @HuddsLocalHist on the evening of 27 September 1978? The word "Workshop" in the name was changed to "Society" in the early 1980s. huddersfieldhistory.org.uk

Wow, sounds like quite a spectacle for the people of #Huddersfield
A huge "thank you" to Ewan for sharing this photo of a 1846 handbill advertising Mr. W. Richardson's lectures at the Guild Hall (the rear part of the library now stands on that site). What a night out -- watch a dead body get shocked and then partake of some laughing gas! :-D
