Growing up in Lagos can make it harder for some Igbo children to feel comfortable expressing their identity. I remember Igbo Language being dismissed as “vernacular,” and children being punished simply for speaking it in school. Over time, SOME learn to downplay their Igboness without even realizing it. From my observation, many Igbo people who grew up in the North seem more at ease with their identity and more confident speaking the language and they are deeply kind and direct unlike SOME of their peers in Lagos.
