The Labour Party is and remains determinedly on the wrong side of history and is irredeemably complicit in genocide in Gaza.
Replying to @perayahmet
The Labour Party position is that the ZiR motion is antisemitic and, by implication, that many Palestinian and Jewish people who support it are antisemitic too. People like Stephen Kapos, Ilan Pappe, Ahmed Alnaouaq, Ghada Karmi. At the same time, the Labour Party position is that it can't determine if Israel is committing a genocide. These are contemptible positions. Contemptible.

“If I were a Jew in Holborn… I would be thinking: I now know precisely how many of my fellow constituents want to kill me.” Insanely hysterical levels of coverage of the Greens from a broken UK media, which is now suggesting being anti-Zionist means you want to kill UK Jews.🤦🏽‍♂️

This discussion this week has reminded me that: 1. The media will do everything it can to twist the narrative to undermine anyone that stands against the establishment. After the incredible success the Greens have had in the last year, absolutely ridiculous that every news debate today about if Zack should go. 2. You get far more hassle for calling out racism than for actually being a racist.

UK pundits today: Zack Polanski, you said you’d replace Labour but having forced the Labour Party to change the Prime Minister within the first year of your leadership, you have failed to win Keir Starmer’s former seat in a by-election. I’m afraid you have no choice but to resign

The result is fine, I don't get the drama about this. The Greens made some mistakes in the campaign, incurred tactical voting against them after they correctly called Zionism racist etc, but if the problem now is how to turn a strong second into a first — good problem to have.
"Do you see this as a setback for @ZackPolanski?" Baroness Jones: "To come second in a safe Labour seat, thats been Labour for 43 years since it was set up, is not embarrassing, its not shameful, I think its absolutely incredible.."

Cut out all the noise: Zack Polanski lost because of the Andy Burnham honeymoon. The Greens got rid of Starmer - via Gorton and Denton and the local elections. The new PM is love bombing progressive voters. The party needs patience - and focus! 👇 owenjones.news/p/zack-polans…

The goalposts have shifted massively. The establishment is desperate for the Green Party to be on the margins so Labour isn’t pressured into more left wing positions. They want rid of Zack and will find any pretext they can to talk up his resignation. Greens win that seat in 2029
I remember, not so long ago, Greens got c. 4% in a by-election, and my reaction was “well, at least it wasn’t totally humiliating”. The fact that some people think 33% in a longstanding Labour seat in the middle of the Burnham bounce is bad shows how far the party has come.

If you’re protesting and blaming *checks notes* Zohran Mamdani for the Gaza genocide you may, you just may, need to check yourself into a mental health facility.
Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

The digital evidence documenting the Gaza genocide.
🇵🇸 Israel Exposed, the anonymous collective behind one of the largest online archives of Gaza genocide documentation, has released a map placing more than 35,200 videos and photos at the locations in Gaza where they were filmed. Every geolocated clip links to its original post and source. Users can filter by area, date and type of attack, and overlay UN satellite damage assessments (UNOSAT). The full dataset is downloadable. The group launched its archive in July with more than 64,500 videos and 17,900 photos and says more footage will be added.

Joke prime minister. But the joke is on us.
Andy Burnham has suggested he could delay his free national care service well into the 2030s to avoid having to raise taxes to fund it. Speaking on Wednesday, the prime minister acknowledged that savings from the scrapping of the current pensions triple lock would not fund his social care reform plans until later in the next decade. Costings published by the government on Wednesday estimate the pensions policy will save £15bn a year in cash terms by 2039-40, rising to £50bn by 2049-50, equivalent to £11bn and £30bn in current prices. Burnham said that “savings on that scale would be enough to pay for social care, but obviously they’re not released immediately”. Asked by Sky News if tax rises would be required, he said: “No, because there’s a different way of doing it. If you delay the date of introduction and you introduce a national care service progressively.” giftarticle.ft.com/giftartic…

Ed Miliband said “I want to say to the millions of people in this country, who have been moved & outraged by the plight of the Palestinian people, we hear you. You were right.” Then deproscribe Palestine Action, release the prisoners & stop arresting people for holding a placard.

Keir Starmer has been gone for two months now. Why is his ridiculous attack on free speech and peaceful protest still in place? Labour. Different singer. Same old tired song.
BREAKING: 94 year old Jewish human rights barrister, Margaret Owen arrested under the Terrorism Act outside @andyburnham’s Labour Party conference. UK taxpayers are funding these arrests while masked men terrorise the streets in coastal towns. Lift The Ban on Palestine Action.

Insane that we allow this. Sleepwalking into disaster or worse
SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios. The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed. The findings also raise questions about what level of control anyone working on AI development can expect to have over their own technology, and whether these kinds of incidents are becoming synonymous with frontier deployment. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/09/26/openai-…

Very pleased to see the critical idea that we cannot rely on interest rate setting to control inflation front-and-centre in the statement and reporting. Now the work to be done in taking this and developing a workable manifesto and programme for government.
🚨EXCL - here is the most comprehensive picture yet of the Green Party’s radical new economic policy under Zack Polanski Motion C05, titled “Fiscal Referees: A New Economic Framework for People and Planet” and seen by the New Statesman, proposes to overhaul the party’s approach to the economy for the first time in years and is supported by the party leadership It will be voted on at Green conference next month and is expected to pass. There are hopes it will draw a clear dividing line with Andy Burnham's Labour C05 includes a range of proposals that would mark a sharp break with the fiscal and monetary policy of Labour and Conservative governments: Interest rates dropped as the main means of controlling inflation - replaced by price controls, buffer stocks, “strategic taxation”, credit regulation and public investment GDP junked as a measure of economic policy success because it overrates “environmentally destructive, socially harmful or economically wasteful” parts of the economy Gov’t “progressively restricting resource use in sectors that generate pollution, ecological degradation or socially harmful outcomes.” E.g. banning banks from creating credit for fossil fuel extraction/potential human rights abuses abroad Enshrines a proposal already floated by Zack Polanski to throw out fiscal rules and replace them with fiscal referees - OBR to be replaced by “Office of Fiscal Transparency” And the creation of a Fiscal Policy Committee to mirror the Bank’s MPC - would oversee government spending and work toward the party's three main economic goals: full employment, “a social foundation” and keeping the economy “within planetary boundaries”
