The 7th cycle RHND from @California_HCD to @SCAGnews is 1.36M homes, compared to 1.34M in the 6th cycle. While the number of units is basically the same, the distribution has shifted. In the 6th cycle, 42% of homes called for were market rate. In the 7th, that has dropped to 34%.

Prop. 43 makes it more difficult for cities to fund affordable housing even when their own residents suggest it!
Prop. 43 increases the percentage of votes required to approve local voter-proposed, special-purpose taxes from a simple majority (50%+1) to two-thirds. 1/3
These special-purpose taxes don’t just fund affordable housing; they also include essential public services like police and fire protection, schools, and roads. This change means local governments would likely struggle to raise taxes for essential services, 2/3
because just 33.4% of voters will be able to derail efforts that 66% of people want. It’s another roadblock to maintaining public safety and building affordable housing in California.
Strongly consider voting NO on Prop. 43 in November. 3/3

Coming to you LIVE from @CityofCostaMesa where lots of people with white hair are waiting to oppose housing on the site of Fairview Developmental Center, a shuttered state hospital where the city parked a significant % of their lower income RHNA. Waiting to start the hearing...
Now we are talking about the significance of the golf ⛳️ course in CEQA. It's not environmentally sensitive; it's not a cultural resource (no Tiger Woods); no historical significance; therefore, it's ok to put a secondary road 🚙through it to get to the site for fire 🔥 access.
