BRAZIL ELECTION: EWZ COULD BE A GREAT VOLATILITY TRADE Brazil is heading into a high-stakes runoff on October 25, with Flávio Bolsonaro finishing the first round ahead of Lula by roughly 47% to 45%. The market reaction has already been strong. EWZ, the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF, jumped around 7% in aftermarket trading and more than 10% overnight following the result. WHY WE LIKE THE SETUP We think the bigger opportunity could be the next three weeks. This is now a very close election, and every new poll, endorsement or major political development has the potential to move Brazilian assets sharply. That makes EWZ interesting to us because we don't need to predict the election winner to trade it. We can focus on the volatility and how the market reacts as expectations change.
