“I know I look rusty, I know I’ve made some mistakes. But one thing I do know is I’m trying my ass off… I’m a little winded but 10 and a half months after tearing my Achilles I’m giving it all I got. And I know each game I’m going to get a little better.”

This is one of those arguments that sounds smart until you look at what it’s actually doing.
1) “Slavery existed everywhere.”
Yes. Humans have done awful things everywhere. That’s not a defense — it’s a baseline. Saying “everyone did it” doesn’t erase the scale, the timing, or the impact of the transatlantic slave system. That system moved millions of people across an ocean, built global industries on racial chattel slavery, and shaped the modern world economy. Pointing out slavery existed in ancient Rome doesn’t magically make that irrelevant.
2) “Britain and America ended slavery.”
They deserve credit for ending it. They also deserve criticism for building massive wealth and power from it first. Both things can be true at the same time.
It’s not ironic to say:
•They helped create and expand a brutal system
•Then later fought to end it
That’s called history being complicated.
If someone burns your house down and later helps put out the fire, you don’t pretend the fire never happened. You acknowledge both parts of the story.
And no — Britain and the U.S. aren’t “the only ones villainized.” Every country that participated in slavery gets criticized by historians. The reason Western slavery gets talked about more is because it’s recent, massively documented, and directly tied to the modern world we live in.
Recognizing the harm doesn’t erase the progress.
