We’re on our way back to Troll! The mooring tower was raised this morning and then we hit the road. Approx. 6 days back to Troll excluding weather delays @BAS_News @OceanSeaIceNPI @NorskPolar @IcefinRobot @DareliusElin
And that’s a wrap! After 5 days of science and two separate boreholes we have finished our scientific programme for this season. It has been hugely successful, and now we start the process of packing the kit down @BAS_News @NorskPolar @OceanSeaIceNPI @IcefinRobot @DareliusElin
Drilling is due to start tomorrow, but first we need to melt 10 tonnes of snow (10,000 L of water). Usually this gets done by hand, but this year we have machinery to help 🎉 @BAS_News @NorskPolar @OceanSeaIceNPI @IcefinRobot @DareliusElin
The #weather has finally cleared and we were able to get on with the drill setup at our second site. Fingers crossed the weather holds as we have another two holes to drill here @BAS_News @NorskPolar @OceanSeaIceNPI @IcefinRobot @DareliusElin

Borehole complete! 16 hours of drilling, 32 hours of science and 30 instruments deployed beneath the ice shelf. Some bigger than others…. Success all around and now a day off before starting our move to our second site @BAS_News @NorskPolar @OceanSeaIceNPI @IcefinRobot
The borehole is open! 231.5 m of ice with 400 m of ocean beneath. We’ve been busy sampling all day, and soon we’ll be deploying the mooring that should observe the ocean for the next 10 years @BAS_News @OceanSeaIceNPI @IcefinRobot @NorskPolar
We drilled a hole! After a full drill shake down followed by finding and fixing a few leaks, we made our first borehole down to the depth of the sub-ice cavity at 42 m @BAS_News @NorskPolar @OceanSeaIceNPI @IcefinRobot @DareliusElin

Now the storm has passed and we’re all on Fimbul Ice Shelf, it’s all hands on deck to get the drill, camp, and scientific equipment setup and tested. As soon as we’re done, we can drill the first borehole @BAS_News @NorskPolar @IcefinRobot @OceanSeaIceNPI @DareliusElin
And we’re off! After two weeks for the tractor traverse to reach the drill sites, and then a storm-induced weather delay, it’s time to head into the field! @BAS_News @NorskPolar @DareliusElin @OceanSeaIceNPI
