Nothing beats elite on-ball footwork. Beat the driver to the spot, absorb the contact, and turn their downhill attack into a charge. No help needed and no easy buckets. Just a momentum swing that can set the tone for the game.
Off-ball charges have become harder and harder to get with recent rule changes in the NBA and NCAA. But you know what hasn't changed...
The on-ball charge. Still one of the most impactful plays you can make on the ball.
Charges:
1. Create a turnover
2. Create energy from your team
3. Give a foul to a key player (maybe foul trouble)
4. Put doubt into that players head next time they try and drive aggressively
5. Add a team foul (are we closer to the bonus now)

Underrated life advice: It’s perfectly ok to live a life that looks confusing to others. Wake up early. Do hard things. Focus deeply. Eat real foods. Go on long walks. Obsess over one thing. Read old books. Avoid drama. Save money. Love your people. Recipe for a good life.

Confident enough to start. Humble enough to keep learning.
The trap:
Too humble to start. Or too confident to keep learning.

I like this. You have to be who you are and believe in what you believe in.
You can’t play high-level defense with one foot in and one out.
Find your identity. Commit to it. Execute it wholeheartedly.

Great breakdown. Be on offense on defense!
Cushioning the triple threat gives scorers the advantage of time and rhythm.
Crowding the catch with high hands and an inside foot jam takes away the pull-up, takes away the jab, and dictates the drive directly into your pre-set gap help.
Don’t react — force the first move.
Pressure Predicts Play: some of the best defenders love to pressure the triple threat. This allows them to limit options, gain an advantage of anticipation, dictate direction, and use an inside jam for added leverage.

The brilliance of the rim-run seal is that it attacks a switching defense before the defense can get organized.
Win the first 3 steps. Win the chest. Seal the guard before the low man can get anchored.
Now the defense has a choice: collapse and give up the 3, stay home and give up the rim, or scramble into a series of secondary rotations.
Simple action, but it puts the defense in a bad situation before the shell is even established.
Carlisle is as good as anyone in basketball history as a tactician.
Duck-ins and rim running, in general, is a lost art and is so DISRUPTIVE to the defensive shell, rotations and matchups.
👇🏼
Simple, yet extremely effective action by Rick Carlisle to counter the Celtics switching 1-5.
***Can be used at ANY level ***
-Rim run/duck in and seal.
-creates an initial mismatch on the big seal
-creates a secondary mismatch on the perimeter
-puts defense in immediate scram situation
-win the first 3 steps when D board is secured
Typically in transition, Carlisle has used a drag screen, a step up screen or right into their 21 series. This was a neat wrinkle to hunt mismatches tonight.
***Traditional 5’s are the most sought after position in basketball rn ***
Two examples of rim running vs delay/drag/pistol action:
