Congratulations! Elab's first Nature paper has finally been published.this amazing work first time to show the whole mouse obesity in cellular resolution.
Today in @Nature, we report MouseMapper: foundation-model AI to map disease perturbations across the entire mouse body cell-by-cell. In obesity, it revealed body-wide inflammation & unexpected facial nerve damage. 🧵👇🔉 nature.com/articles/s41586-0… led by @Dorie00 & @yingchen733

I am happy to share our protocol paper for wildDISCO technology, a platform for whole-body immunolabeling, clearing and 3D imaging of intact mice at cellular resolution using standard IgG antibodies. nature.com/articles/s41596-0… This work presents technical details for wildDISCO (Mai&Luo...Ertürk, Nature Biotechnology, 2023, nature.com/articles/s41587-0…. The protocol enables deep antibody penetration across the entire body, including challenging regions such as bone marrow, spinal cord and deep organ tissues. With this approach, we can now map neuronal, vascular, lymphatic and immune systems across the whole organism and study disease processes, cancer metastasis, microbiome interactions and systemic biology in unprecedented detail. The workflow also integrates light-sheet imaging, virtual reality visualization and online atlas generation. Work led by @jieluo692, @HongchengM . We hope this protocol helps many labs worldwide explore biology at true organism-wide scale. #DISCO #Clearing #NatureProtocols #SpatialBiology #Imaging #TissueClearing #LightSheetMicroscopy #SystemsBiology #AI #Neuroscience #CancerResearch #wildDISCO

𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐛 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 In my last posts, I shared my experiences with building a team and focusing. When you look from the outside, you might see a story of quick, impactful papers and major grants. But that’s only half the story. The uncomfortable truth is that the path is filled with setbacks for all of us. There is fierce competition (as there should be), we can get scooped, and there will be a lot of roadblocks. To thrive, building a resilient lab culture is a core survival strategy, one where the team is not discouraged by failures, but takes them as learning opportunities. I learned this the hard way during my PhD. We developed a new technology to study biology, but another lab, who knew us, quickly published the same tech first. While very disappointing, I learned the importance of storytelling in science, and how to focus and create an impact with the data in hand by solving a major problem. 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲. It’s easy to blame others... I failed my first two ERC applications because of the panel members 🤷🏻‍♂️. After wasting time being upset with them, I tried to focus on understanding why, gathered a lot of feedback, and got the ERC on my third try. 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞. It is a learning process; no one gets big papers and grants just like that without failure. So, what do you do when facing failure? Of course, work smarter and harder, but also: 𝟏. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. Yes, our science (vision) must be high level, but mastering storytelling is just as important. The same data can generate vastly different levels of excitement depending on how it's presented. Also, a team that believes in your story can create a lot! (More about storytelling later) 𝟐. 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝. Absorb the shock as PI, stay positive, and focus the team on the next goal instead of things that are in the past. We learn together. Never give up! 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺. Learn from what went wrong, refine your story, and focus all your energy on what you can control. That is how we turn failure into the foundation of our next success. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥?
