UNDERSTANDING THE HOLY SPIRIT The Holy Spirit is neither a vibe nor an energy. Not a feeling that shows up when the music gets loud enough. He is the Governor - sent by the King of Heaven to govern His colony: Earth. Here's the picture: When kingdoms colonized nations, the king sent a governor to establish his laws, his culture, his order in that land. That governor had a residence - a mansion - built for him in the territory he ruled. God is the King of Heaven. He created Earth as His colony, and He wants it to carry the exact character of Heaven. So He sent a Governor to make that happen: the Holy Spirit. His mansion? Your body. This is why the Holy Spirit is the most important Person on Earth - and His work is the most important work on Earth. If you are not partnered with Him, you are doing nothing. Here is the chain of command He governs by: God's Spirit speaks to your spirit. Your spirit instructs your mind. Your mind directs your emotions. Your emotions move your body. Spirit leads. Body follows. But here's what happens when the Governor is grieved. He withdraws. Goes back to the King. And the colony is left alone and independent, no longer taught the values, the culture, the character of Heaven. That's when the chain breaks. The soul takes over the controls. Now you're run by feelings, moods, impulses, sin. That's why a man can know exactly what's right and still do what's wrong. His controls are inverted. The Governor has stepped out of the mansion.
