“Taylor Walls is one of the best shortstops on the planet.” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt with some serious praise for the @RaysBaseball shortstop.

Part of what makes playing the #Rays so tough is that they can’t blow you out. Games stay tight, forcing you to burn your high-leverage bullpen arms just to stay in it. Same story today. Why put Smith in, though?

Yesterday, Vogt let his bullpen pitch two innings out of concern for the four-game series, and it cost them the game. But today, the starter was pulled early, putting an even bigger burden on them. In the playoffs, winning today matters more than worrying about tomorrow. #Rays
I didn't think Vogt should've pushed Espino for two innings, and the same goes for Festa. Four straight days of games is taking a toll on him. I'm not blaming him—I think Cleveland's bullpen depth pushed them into this situation. #Rays

Another one! #Rays
I asked Jonathan Aranda about his defense this afternoon. He talked about the amount of work he's put in. How playing with so many other good defenders makes him want to elevate his game. His glove has stood out in this series.

Considering Simpson's speed, Cash likely believed that simply BIP would be enough to score a run. Below is the hitting data with RISP against LHP. Although Vilade offered better productivity, Williams was the better choice if the goal was to avoid a K and make contact. #Rays
I am still perplexed why Kevin Cash sent Ben Williamson, a guy with a 55.6% GB% this season, to the plate with your fastest player on 3rd base. Any sort of flyball is going to score him there. You have Vilade who is a LHP specialist who can lift the ball. He's not a defensive replacement. Meanwhile, Williamson is you're most versatile defender on the infielder. Win or lose, kinda need an explanation there.

I don’t know Kevin Kelley is a good answer at this time. #Rays

CLE hitters swing bats with an authority. N.Martinez are trying to keep them off-balance. Very good job. #Rays

Some say yesterday’s rainout gave the #CLE a break, which favors their thin pitching staff. I partially agree, but playing 4straight games will actually be a much bigger burden for them. Today is key. If the #Rays lose, #CLE will go all-in on securing that one remaining W, 1/2

putting #Rays in serious trouble. But if the #Rays win today, this four-game stretch will weigh heavily on the Guardians all along. Winning a World Series takes luck, but you have to overcome challenges like this to truly earn it. 2/2

Don't fully fall for the old data: #Rays were weak against LHPs because they forced LHB matchups due to lack of options. They’ve found alternatives now, so those numbers no longer apply.

For me, Putting Williams in the lineup was a relatively easy decision. The one I wrestled with until the very end was Hicks vs. Fortes. Let’s see how this decision plays out. #Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays agreed in recent hours with Dominican OF Yojanser Leiva, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound from Josue Herrera Academy, for a $10K bonus. At 18, Leiva may be one of the most toolsy eligible players in the country’s market, with a chance to develop into a 5-tool player.

Here is my lineup for ALCS game 1 1. Diaz(DH) 2. Aranda(1B) 3. Caminero(3B) 4. Mesa. Jr (LF) 5. Vilade(RF) 6. Hicks(C) 7. Deluca(CF) 8. Willams(2B) 9. Walls(SS) I don't start many RHB because I don’t think Griffin would throw for long, but Ben is necessary for a defense. #Rays
