With all of the breaking news surrounding Christa Pike and the failed attempt to execute her, we need to stop for a minute and remind everyone why we are even here.
Her name was Colleen Slemmer.
She was 19 years old.
On January 12, 1995, Colleen was lured away from the Knoxville Job Corps Center and taken to an isolated area.
Colleen was beaten, kicked, cut and slashed repeatedly. She tried more than once to escape. She begged for her life. She even offered to walk all the way home to Florida if they would just let her go. They didn't.
The attack lasted somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour. Christa Pike admitted cutting Colleen's throat multiple times and continuing to beat her. And afterward, Pike took a piece of Colleen's skull with her as a souvenir.
So while Christa's name is dominating headlines right now because of what happened during her execution attempt, please don't let Colleen become a footnote in her own story.
Before there was a death sentence.
Before there were appeals.
Before there was an execution date.
Before any of the chaos we're watching unfold right now.
There was a 19 year old girl named Colleen Slemmer who begged to live.

The Court ruled right in custody hearing, sadly they forgot to protect the child - this never should have happened Houston!
If it had been reversed - a man losing custody, they would have made sure child was protected until transfer physical custody done!
🚨#BREAKING: Outrage is erupting in Houston after a mother just SH0T and K*LLED her OWN DAUGHTER instead of handing her over to the girl's father after losing custody...
...and the court had ruled she couldn't even be ALONE with that child!!!
The girl went home with her anyway and the mother k*lled her.
Yes, you read that right.
The court itself decided this mother could not be trusted alone with her child. And then her child went home with her, alone, anyway.
Her name was Vivian Savella. She was 4 years old.
Her family says she was "loved without limit."
On Tuesday, September 29th, there was a custody hearing in Houston.
Vivian's father, Aaron, had spent that whole case doing it the right way.
In his family's words: "He trusted the courts. He followed every order. He waited for the process to work."
And on Tuesday, it finally did.
A judge gave Aaron primary custody of Vivian... the right to decide where she lived, her medical care, her schooling.
The mother? Court documents say she was "awarded possession of the child only when continuously supervised."
Vivian was supposed to be handed over to her dad that night.
She never made it.
...but it gets worse
According to the father's attorney, the court never spelled out HOW that handoff was supposed to happen.
The supervision was supposed to come through a court-appointed agency, but the ruling had JUST come down... and no supervisor was with Vivian and her mother that day.
So after the hearing, police say, Vivian and her mother went home. To the same townhome on Terra Reserve Place.
Her stepfather and a babysitter were downstairs.
Just before 6 that evening, they heard gunshots from the third floor.
They forced their way into Vivian's room.
Her stepfather tried CPR.
Vivian didn't make it.
Her mother had SH0T herself too.
She later passed away at the hospital.
A judge put it in writing that this mother could not be alone with Vivian.
Hours later, she was.
And now a father who did everything the law asked of him is burying his little girl.

🔥🚨 BREAKING — Islamic-inspired TERRORIST attack thwarted at the TEXAS State Capitol.
Texas DPS and the FBI stopped a man who told a friend he was going to the Capitol to shoot it up.
Benny Caldera Jr., 40, of Converse, was taken at his house around 3 a.m. Wednesday after a tip Tuesday night.
The state charge was a felony terroristic threat against a public servant. By evening he was in FBI custody on more. The alleged target was the Texas Capitol today.
Arrest papers say he was angry at AIPAC and told that friend, “These people have to be exterminated,” then “I am going to the Capitol and I am going to shoot it up.”
Kash Patel said the arrest came within hours of the tip. Greg Abbott said Texas will not tolerate threats against the Capitol.

Jack Smith should be barred from practicing law for life, and serve time for his offenses.
I filed a bar complaint against Jack Smith this morning. He’s a blatantly partisan actor and his prosecutorial misconduct damaged our constitutional order. He should never be able to practice law again.
