Our lab contributed images to the "Life of a Neuron" expo, which opened last weekend at ARTTECHOUSE in Manhattan! In collaboration with @SfNtweets bit.ly/3PjwdAp
Beautiful setting to kick off the 14th Annual Neuroscience Retreat, with an introduction from @EricJNestler
The newest addition to our lab is Enna Selmanovic (@ennnerz). She is a first year PhD student co-mentored by Dr. @DamsOConnor and Dr. Hof, interested in the long-term sequelae of TBI. Enna loves her dog Ferg, Barbies, & biking, when she's not volunteering for Feed the Streets
Monday Mystery!
Our PhD student did a Fibronectin stain (1:200) in a TBI case. It was supposed to stain around blood vessels but stained these pyramidal cells as well. Has this happened to anyone else and do we know why?
Our resident postdoc and manager of this account is Dr. @AckermansNicole AKA Dr. Headbutt! She studies traumatic brain injury in animals like bighorn sheep as a model for TBI reduction in humans. Her hobbies include bouldering, podcasting and walking her cat.
Dr. Carmen Freire Cobo is a Senior Scientist in our lab studying synaptic function in normal and pathological states. Currently, she is working on primate models of human aging to investigate sex and age-related cognitive decline.
Next up is our assistant professor Dr. Merina Varghese (@Dr_Merina_V). She applies her biology skills to investigate pathological changes in the brain during aging and in neuropsychiatric diseases. She also appreciates long walks and windowsill gardening.
Hof lab roll call! Introducing our lab members in this thread!
Starting off with Patrick R. Hof MD, the lab's namesake.
Dr. Hof has an international reputation in quantitative approaches to systems neuroscience and brain evolution. He also really enjoys fencing & fly-fishing.
The Hof lab at @IcahnMountSinai is making its Twitter debut! Our PI is Dr. Patrick Hof and we primarily work on neuronal vulnerability in dementing illnesses, often finding inspiration in the animal kingdom. @SinaiBrain @MountSinaiNYC
