Baby Anhelina and her mom Inna were killed by Russia yesterday.
Anhelina was just over a year old. Her mom, Inna Mariukhna, was a primary school teacher. They were in the park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region, when a Russian drone attacked.
Little Anhelina was killed in her stroller. Her mom died of her injuries in hospital.
Another girl killed in the strike was just 11 years old.
Six people lost their lives from that Russian strike. All of them had simply been spending time in the park. At least 15 more were injured, including seven kids.
Deepest condolences...

On 20 October 1939, as part of the genocidal Operation Tannenberg, the Germans began mass executions of members of the Polish elite in Greater Poland, targeting prominent figures and community leaders.
Adolf Hitler, who did not fully trust his own generals, entrusted the task of eliminating the Polish elite to the police units (Einsatzgruppen) and SS forces under Heinrich Himmler's command. The entire operation was to be carried out under the cover of the Wehrmacht's military campaign.
By the end of 1939, the Germans had murdered nearly 55,000 Polish citizens in this manner in the territories of the Second Polish Republic occupied by Nazi Germany.
The victims of these premeditated killings included local community leaders and prominent figures from various walks of life: veterans of Poland's struggle for independence, activists of the Polish Western Union, teachers, priests, industrial workers, peasants, civil servants and landowners.

When Germany occupied Poland, it did not wage war only against the Polish Army, the underground, or the men and women who might one day take up arms. It waged war against the very foundations of Polish national life: against memory, language, education, faith, culture, and the confidence of a people in their own right to exist. The occupier understood that a nation can be weakened not only by killing its citizens, but by cutting them off from the stories, books, teachers, and traditions that tell them who they are.
Schools were closed or restricted to the most basic instruction. Polish history and literature were forbidden. Libraries were looted, archives seized, monuments destroyed, and works of art carried away. Professors, teachers, writers, priests, lawyers, and community leaders were targeted precisely because they preserved the intellectual and moral life of Poland. The purpose was not merely conquest. It was to reduce Poland to a population without a past, without educated leaders, and therefore, so the occupier hoped, without a future.
Regardless, Poland answered in a way that remains one of the most remarkable chapters of the Second World War.
The underground did not hide only pistols, ammunition, radios, and printing presses - it also hid books. It protected manuscripts and archives. They created clandestine schools and universities, where teachers risked arrest, deportation, torture, and death in order to teach young people the subjects their occupiers had forbidden them to learn. In private apartments, basements, parish rooms, and behind drawn curtains, students studied Polish literature, history, geography, philosophy, medicine, law, and languages. A lesson held at a kitchen table became an act of defiance.
The Home Army was the armed heart of the Polish Underground State, but it existed beside another kind of resistance, one no less necessary. There were men and women who fought with weapons, and there were men and women who fought by ensuring that Polish children could still read Mickiewicz, learn the history of the Commonwealth, understand the partitions, and believe that Poland was more than the occupied territory they saw outside their windows.
A rifle could defend a street, a railway line, or a barricade, yet a secret lesson defended something even more enduring: the future of the nation.
The Germans could burn books, destroy buildings, loot museums, and murder professors. They could try to terrorize a people into silence. Still, they could not fully erase a country whose teachers continued to teach, whose families continued to read, whose writers continued to write, and whose children were quietly taught that Poland had existed before the occupation and would exist after it.
That is why the history of the Polish Underground cannot be told only through sabotage, assassinations, intelligence operations, and armed uprisings. It must also be told through the hidden classroom, the concealed library, the copied poem, the forbidden history lesson, and the teacher who chose to take the risk. Resistance was not only an act of fighting.
Sometimes it was a whispered lecture, sometimes it was a hidden book, or sometimes it was the quiet, stubborn refusal to allow a nation to be forgotten.

24 children among 48 victims. The youngest were just a few months old. New findings from IPN exhumations in Ukraine.
More than eight decades after their deaths, the victims of atrocities carried out by Ukrainian nationalists are being recovered from forgotten graves.
In Wola Ostrowiecka, a Polish village destroyed by Ukrainian nationalists in August 1943, specialists from the IPN exhumed the remains of 48 people, including 24 children and 17 women. Many of the children were under the age of 12. The youngest were only a few months old.
The victims had been buried in a mass grave, their bodies placed in several layers. Forensic examinations revealed injuries consistent with accounts given by survivors of the massacre. Among the remains, researchers discovered crosses, rosaries and religious medals bearing Polish inscriptions.
On 20 October 2026, during a press conference held at @PrzystanekH, the IPN presented the results of this year's search and exhumation work in Ukraine. The findings extend far beyond Wola Ostrowiecka:
Ostrówki: The remains of seven victims were recovered from two graves. Together with those from Wola Ostrowiecka, they were laid to rest during a solemn funeral on 30 August 2026.
Huta Pieniacka: Archaeologists discovered a mass grave near the foundations of the village chapel. More than 850 people were murdered in the village on 28 February 1944. The exact number of victims buried in the newly discovered grave remains unknown.
Hołosko Wielkie, near Lwów: The remains of 115 Polish soldiers who fell fighting German forces in September 1939 were exhumed. Researchers also recovered 2,650 objects, including military identification tags, uniform elements and personal belongings.
For years, efforts to locate and recover Polish victims buried in Ukraine faced obstacles. The granting of long-awaited permissions has now made it possible to resume this work.
💬 “For many years, we spoke of how much we hoped for a change in the situation that prevented us from conducting search and exhumation work in Ukraine. Today, at last, we can present the first results of the Institute of National Remembrance’s work following the long-awaited authorisations and permits.”
The work is not only about uncovering evidence of crimes committed more than 80 years ago. It is also about restoring identities to the dead, giving families answers and ensuring that the victims receive dignified burials.
The IPN continues its efforts to locate, identify and commemorate the victims of the Volhynian Massacre and Polish soldiers who died defending their homeland. @PoszukiwaniaIPN

Lec przed wojną i w jej trakcie miał silne przekonania lewicowe. Po wojnie został m.in. attaché prasowym PRL w Wiedniu. W 1950 roku przeżył jednak kryzys ideowy, porzucił placówkę dyplomatyczną i uciekł do nowo powstałego Izraela wraz z żoną i synem. Władze komunistyczne ukarały go całkowitym zakazem publikacji, a jego książki wycofano z bibliotek.

"On dwukrotnie uciekał z obozu koncentracyjnego.
Zabiłem go łopatą”.

— Życie to szkodliwa rzecz.
— Gdyby zwierzę zabiło z premedytacją, byłby to ludzki czyn.
Kawa z mlekiem"
