VP Technology, St. Jude. I build and run governed AI agent fleets, at home and at work. Agentic adoption without losing the ability to say no. Views my own.

For most of my career, posting on platforms didn't seem like a good use of a technology leader's time. The work was the work, and my team got the credit. That's still how I'd rather operate. But over the last twelve months something shifted. The most timely information I use to stay current stopped coming from where it used to. X, LinkedIn, Reddit, and even TikTok have become real avenues to accelerate learning. I'd be lying if I said I didn't resist that conclusion. So, with some reticence, I've decided to start sharing some of the discoveries my team and I have made, in the hope it helps others skip a few of the mistakes we made along the way. As a technologist with over 30 years of experience, I can honestly say we are in the early innings of an incredible sea change. Generative and agentic AI are already changing what a small team can do, and what's coming behind them will change what a scientific institution can do. I run these systems myself, at home and at work, and I've watched them fail in ways I didn't design for. That's the part most people aren't writing about. It's both exhilarating and terrifying, and it's the most important thing we have to get right.

Someone wrote a sharp piece on graph engineering recently. Fan out, reduce in plain code, verify on fresh context, anchor to things that can't be argued with. It described my home fleet better than I would have. What it couldn't cover: what happens on run two hundred.

None of this needs a new framework. A timestamp on the fact, a list of what a result rests on, one comparison before anything acts. Three fields and a function on the graph you already have. Graphs that know when they're stale is the shift after this one.

The piece that started this, by @AnatoliKopadze. Worth reading in full. Everything in it is right; this thread is about what happens after it has been running a while. xitter.cf/AnatoliKopadze/status/…

I've run a governed AI agent fleet at home for a year. Builds, reviews, deploys code. Blocks when it can't verify. Earns autonomy with a track record. It changed how I lead technology at a research hospital. The question isn't "should we adopt agents." It's "how do we go fast and keep the keys." Starting to write about it. 🧵 soon

St. Jude has named Charles W.M. Roberts, MD, PhD, internationally recognized physician-scientist and director of the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center, as its seventh president and CEO. The announcement is part of a planned leadership transition. Under his leadership, the Cancer Center has grown in scope and impact, earning the National Cancer Institute’s top “Exceptional” rating in both reviews and the best score in institutional history each time. Dr. Roberts’ background in cancer epigenetics, clinical care and collaborative leadership has helped shape major efforts that connect researchers, clinicians and partner institutions to move discovery forward.
