It isn't that Who You Are isn't profoundly good; but until we learn to love *who we really are* and let *who we want to imagine ourselves to be die* we will be suffocating ourselves.

This man is Dwight. And I have rarely if ever known a person more committed to the proposition that knowing God ought to make a difference in your life and in the world.
Super grateful to get a chance to get to know them this week.

In the book my @HoardPaul and I are working on we talk about bull💩 as a mechanism we use to protect ourselves from becoming "infected" (eucontaminated) by prophetic Truth.
Where Truth demands that we deconstruct and rebuild our false images of reality, bull💩 affirms them.

Vance's comment here—the reference is to a racist disproved rumor which Vance knows to be false but is endorsing anyway) is a premium example of bull💩. And I mean that in an academic way it is bull💩 (emoji to avoid tweet suppression) in the Frankfurtian sense of the term.

This really awesome conversation that @HoardPaul and I got to have with Brandon over at @CrucibleOfThght
may well be the most thorough discussion of our upcoming book on disgust and purity to date. We had a great time chatting with him! youtu.be/cqBWM8BsJgM?si=7URz…

This First Things piece is a solid example of one thing that @HoardPaul and I are gonna be talking about on our book: the industry of supplying individuals with bull💩 designed to fortify their imagined realities against the Eucontamination of Truth.

Since I am literally writing a book about this let me say some more about disgust, and white Christian Nationalism (American Fascism), and Black and South Asian Women, and how all of it fits together.

And that is why I have hope. That is the disgust theory analysis behind "the GOP is getting really weird and overplaying their hand here". This is why I think VP Harris has a really solid shot of winning in a "referendum on our character as a nation" vote in November.

This isn't to say disgust is intrinsically bad. It isn't, it can keep us from being poisoned or sickened. Only that Kelly is entirely wrong. For disgust to be healthy, we need to interrogate it. Rotting food should disgust us, broccoli shouldn't. Neither should trans folx.
