The battles of the Boyne & Aughrim, along with the siege of Derry, shaped Protestant identity in Ireland for centuries. See a King Billy wallet (from Ulster Museum) & one of the 4 enormous locks used to secure Derry (from St Columbs cathedral). @EmpirePodUK
Listen as @tweeter_anita and @DalrympleWill are joined once again by Professor @janeohlmeyer to discuss. the Battle of the Boyne.
How did the English conquest of Ireland shape Protestant identity there to this day.

An amazing account of a 19th c Irish Australian migrant family and rare early photos that have recently been found, including an extraordinary image of their children with an indigenous Australian nursemaid. Henry Kidd Harpur was born in Limerick in 1817 and emigrated in 1841.
You'll never guess where this was found!
