In a discussion about my kid's school shooting scare (hiding in a corner for an hr w/ crying teachers and kids), someone sent me this crap from the rightwing SCOTUSblog. Ha. No. One of the first things Congress should do w/ an expanded SCOTUS is overturn Heller.

In addition to the big discoveries described in the Nobel Prize announcement, I’ll highlight this wonderful paper from Hegemann. They characterize the photocycles of ChR2. This kind of careful, brick-in-the-wall work is key to science.

- I laughed when I read this. Yes this was a worry back then and we also used to worry about whether retinal, required for photo cycling, would be present in neurons. The field has solved this and many other challenges. Congrats to the awardees!

Its much worse. Lula winning in the second turn straight up doesnt matter anymore. The right basically doubled or tripled their presence in all seats of government. Its complete right wing control. Bolsonaro's party has 20 more seats then the next biggest party in the chamber of deputies lol

Yes to this especially. But I see this as an exciting time in neuroscience not a stagnant one. I think we will look back at this moment as a time of transformational change in our understanding of the brain.

The Trump admin has ignored the law and Constitution, seizing money that Congress directed be spent on science. Winning elections is necessary, but not enough, to fix this. We are going to need to rewrite administrative law. Which requires disempowering the Supreme Court.
